Blue Face Angel added to existing Emperor Angel?

I would say better but, my blue face was aggressive to my conspic when i introduced it but funnily the most aggressive angel to my conspic was the smaller navarchus, i think with any angels there will be bit of dominance and jostling for awhile until things settle.
Emperors can be very dominant angels .

Sounds like you have some opportunities to get some great fish! If I could get those 2 fish, I would pull the Emperor and sell it, put in the BF and Conspic at the same time, and add a juve. Emperor later on.

Either way you go, you better be posting some pics of this tank as you fill it up. Sounds like an awesome setup.

As mentioned, the B/F is a rehome from a friend who has a maintenance service. I can either accept or reject. The Conspic is from Diver's Den that I have been watching for a while. I raised the P. Imperator from a small baby so I feel loyalty to keeping it. Strange, I know, but I get attached to fish.

Not strange at all, I feel the same attachment. I had to pull my changing emperor from my reef and I set up a different tank just so I didn't have to get rid of him now. I too got mine very small. Although, for me, he would have to go if I was getting a conspic. :spin1:

Also, I haven't personally seen this Conspic, but I saw the one previous to this that they sold and another last year from DD. They keep Conspic's around a long time(multiple months instead of weeks) before selling and the fish are very settled and doing well in captivity. I'm sure you have done your research, but another good thing to hear when you are making a large investment.

Steve,

You should seriously consider going the Conspic route - smallest specimen possible - I always prefer juveniles, and forget about the BF. If you want a BF (or Majestic), I would add a very small juvenile.

If it were smaller than 6 1/2 inches I would be all over it, especially since it is settled in on DD. But it is about the same size as my "teen aged" P. imperator. If I had to choose between the P. imperator the B/F would never enter the picture.

there was a beautiful true personifer on DD yesterday. perfect size(4" and change) with the mark on the tail completely developed too. Jawsee has 2 in his monster reef tank. how he does it, i dont know.

steve, you say no other relevant fish. i guess no other angels, but out of curiousity, what fish do you have in there?

Various small fish, no tangs. Mating pair of mandarins, a large shoal of carberryi anthias, etc. Lots of inverts.

Steve I wouldn't add the BF. Emperor is a very alpha angel and usually harassses co-species. I had a 6.5" one that would go after my french and majestic angels but would leave my regal alone completely.

You convinced me. I was leaning that direction in any case. I have mixed the two before but they grew up together. A French is almost never on the short side of an argument from my experience but they get really large.

yeah no kidding. french is humongous and a very fast grower. mine grew from 4" to 6" in 2 months (well i fed a lot too haha...).

i've kept most of the pomacanthus before, including two emperors. both of them proved to be the alpha king of the species. french is a close second, but not quite as bad. i've found that for angelfish, the rules of not having more than one per tank can sometimes be broken if one of the two is a weak sauce, like majestic or regal, and the other is not an alpha angel (emperor, queen, passer, etc). of course, this is just a personal observation and there are exceptions.

i love emperor angels as they are truly beautiful (and for the "grunt" noise they make), but i would not keep another one since i love my french more and don't want her to get harassed :p

Did you know that French Angels like cheez whiz?

Lol wow maybe I should try that haha.. Although my French is a big crazy eater already... Eats anything and everything!

I agree.

I don't understand the people who are so eager to take on fish that'll obviously outgrow their tank and think giving it away is a simple task (unless they have a really good pal with a larger tank just waiting for a rehome project several years down the road)
