Blue Gigantea (day 1)

I received the gig Friday morning. I decided to place in 300g DT. If necessary I can remove to QT along with rock. I used exopy and made a small rock structure that is cave like and has flat space on top. He is near the bottom under a 400w 20k radium. I placed cardboard over gig to block some light off and on through out photo period.
Only had a few hrs of direct light the first day.
How is he looking for first day?
When first placed on rock

moved around on rock some

after 8hrs in DT

this is as closed as mouth has been on first day right before lights went out.

Looks great! FWIW, i did not light acclimate our gig, so dont think you need worry about that
. Let there be light

Looks beautiful! Looks healthy also. Great color and shaggy. I did not light acclimate mine either. My green is a lover of light and lays out catching rays all day. Yours is looking awesome for day one though. Good luck:)

Both of you have green colored gigs.
I have an sps dominate tank. It's funny, I really did not want many green acro's they are cheap and eveywhere. I started searching for a green gig, and could only find blue and purple gigs.

I will leave gig uncovered today to receive full light today.

Should I move it back a little from the front glass? It is not touching front glass, just close. If the tentacles touches the glass would it try to move higher. Does the foot have to actually touch the surface for it to move without moving by the floating method?

Here are a few updated pics from today. I will leave it exposed for the whole lighting period today. Just nervous it being under 400w. I know in nature it receives more. I do not know how long it has been from the ocean. I use to see LFS place nems under normal output fluorescents.

I don't think you need to move it. IME with gigs, they don't detach and float like BTAs, nor do they walk like magnifica. If it wants more light, it will most likely stretch its column up to reach it. Mine does this occasionally.

I wouldn't worry about lighting either. Just watch its mouth to make sure it tightens up and watch for any deflation. If it deflates, even once, I would move it to a QT tank. The tentacle length looks really good. Great pick up!

Great buy! As stated the color and tentacles look great.

Did you manage to get some cipro just incase?

Day 2

Day 2

thanks. Some tentacles look at least an inch. May just be soaking up the light.
It definitely expanded bigger today.
Yes I received some cipro. From what I read most of the time deflate happens when lights first come on? They can stay deflated up to 4 hrs? Is that correct? What times are most critical to view for health? I am still reading and learning daily.
I have about 50 sps frags. Has the anemone released something in water to make the sps to slime? I have about 5 that has little bit of slime.
I fed the tank rod's and pe mysis. Some small particles landed on gig.
In this pic is he reaching out from mouth to get food?

Does the blue foot turn to tan in captivity?

Thanks a lot for everyone documenting their gig experience, and for the knowledge you gave/giving me. I have posted enough pics so I want post anymore unless I see a problem.

The stomach expands outward to bring in food, normal. My purples stomach is huge when it soaks up food

It should not deflate at all -- deflate meaning all of the tentacles look like deflated balloons --limp with any ability to move. in the morning, the tentacles and overall size of the anemone should look smaller. Mine shrinks down to about 3/4 if its mid-day fully open size. The deflating you're looking for happens mid-day to towards the end of the day, and happens without reason.

I think your gig looks good at this point. You'll need to monitor it for about a month. After that you should be relatively home free unless you do something bad to the tank.

Does not look bad for a newly imported gig.

The fact that its reaching out for food is also another very good sign:thumbsup:

Day 3

Day 3

At the end of day 3 the mouth is getting tighter. I can not believe how this gig is loving being under a 400w and flow from 4 6105 tunzes. I have one tunze he is getting the flow that bounces on the glass.

I know I have a good waiting period to make sure it stays heathly.
What clowns are best with gigantea? What I mean best, ones that will stay with gig all the time. Some clowns like to venture out on their on. This may be a new thread I start to find out peoples experience with clowns/gigs their behavorial.

I thought about percs extra black from SA. Here is a pair some what local to me.
Now, I will have to read up on clowns.

Day 11

Day 11

Ok, I could not resist adding small pair of onyx percs. Gig has never deflated, or looked bad at any time. I emailed the store where and when collected. The wholeselar replied back they had gig for 2 weeks, and was collected from Jakarta.
