Blue Maxima Clam?

Ray,
You can't offend me .I'm from NY:D . This forum is for exchange of ideas. I would be offended if you held back your opinions.
I think the jury will always be out on this one.
What about this guy
http://www.hausriff.ch/index2.html
He only uses T5 and some people say you can only use MH for proper SPS growth.
We come here to contribute and take what we need.
As far as Mg supplement I use Kent Tech-M but myMg level seems to go down when I test 12 hrs later. It says it raises the Mg 39ppm/ ounce and I put in 3. So something is preciptating my Mg. I'll probably take this to the Chemistry part of RC . The last time they couldn't help with the reactor raising my pH and with my alk depleting at the same time. That's why I ended up with Hach test kits but cause I was getting different results with different test kits.
Funny thing is that why I built a new fish room and started a new set up but the problems are the same in that set up. Getting a new mG testkit this week just to be sure. Here a few pics of my on going project . No tank yet

Oh and BTW my sand is 11 YO. I didn't know it had an expiration date. There is quite an amount of life so what happens after it expires?;)

Shh, don't let the sand bed know ;)

Most of the sand bed horror stories I've seen seem to go to the idea that they are set and forget, something that doesn't work with any methodology. I've been at this for a very long time and seen people suffer crashes using every known methodology, sand bed or not. IMO for a DSB to keep funcioning for many years, it needs disturbances, both biological and man made to simulate the occasional storm to clean out accumulations ;)

Exactimundo Bill. I feel that our reefs need a good typhoon occasionally to keep things going. The tropics where our animals experience typhoons and hurricaines all the time and so does my tank. I mix the hell out of it.
I also don't let my RUGF hear all the horror stories. An 11 year old DSB in my eyes is a great accomplishment. I really diden't think they would last that long. I am glad I was wrong. I remember when they invented them.
Unfortunately my reef will only get to 39 years old before I will have to move it. I hope to relocate then to the east end of Long Island but I hope to re-set it up in a larger tank. Still of course with a RUGF.
And Reefist, your clam looks good to me.
This one has always been under MH but my last one grew larger than this one with regular flourescent lights.
Yours is a much nicer looking clam. It brings back memories of Bora Bora
Have a great day. (where on LI are you?)

Hey Paul,

I'm on the East End ;) The North Fork to be exact. Where are you looking to move to?

Right next to you. I want to be the last house on the north fork on the east end. I am out there a lot.
I just spent some time in Jamesport on the Peconic.
I am in New Hyde Park now but I work in Manhatten so for now I am stuck here. My boat is in Port Washington.
I do most of my diving near New Rochelle or Execution Rock Lighthouse
Paul

The last house on the North Fork is a Park Ranger's house on the dirt road that goes to Orient Point. The road that goes past the Ferry Terminal ;)

Yeah I know that road. So I will have to be next to him, what can I tell you. I love that park next to that ferry terminal. I do some collecting there.
I hear they will be selling Plum Island soon. Or at least abandoning it. I am sure no one will be allowed there.
Paul

The gov't was looking into closing down Plum Island, but that caused quite a local uproar as they are major employer for the east end. I believe the uproar was sufficient to garner enough political pull to keep it open, at least thats the last I heard on the subject.

na i think t5's are great. think most people don't give them the deserved credit. that guys tank is awesome.

keep the pics coming on the setup looks good so far.
