Blue or Black Background?

I have blue on my 46 gallon and black on the 180.

I much prefer the black but the blue I have isn't that dark. I think a really dark navy blue would be ideal.

I've had light blue, dark blue and black. Black looked the best to me. The colours popped more and I seem to end up with more blue fish than black, so the blue ones just sorta disappeared into the background.

Like others have said, do what is going to make you the happiest. My background is reversible, and for me, I like the dark blue one the best.

Here are three pictures, granted the tank is a bit different, but gives you an idea.

I've always preferred black, but this question is kinda like asking coke vs pepsi... the correct answer is coke BTW.

How can you be so right about coke, but so wrong about background color? ;) ;)

heh. I made my last tank viewable on 3 sides, so no more backgrounds for me. moot point now :)

I have debated this within my head forever.

I don't have the luxury of putting a tank room behind the tank (if only i could hit the damn powerball) so i was hoping that i could find some sort of foam or suction cup background to apply to the back of the tank.

In a perfect world, i'd be able to scrape the back and keep a blue background (i love the open feel that it gives the tank). But i don't live in a perfect world.

Black is also a strong consideration.

Is it viable to consistently scrape the back wall of your tank in the absence of a fish room behind said tank? Seems to me like i wouldn't be able to get back there with the magnetic scrapper. And i have long arms!

It just doesn't seem viable. But i'm hoping someone can tell me i'm wrong.

No doubt! It's not even close.

As for color, i'd say that blue should be the choice of anyone that wants their tank to look bigger than it really is, while black should be the choice of those that want to portray color contrasts and give a sense of your tank being a contained "neat" piece of artwork.

For me, blue. But i'm basing this on pictures of other tanks.

in a reef tank with propper lights......i choose none! coraline will obscure any background and it looks better. lol
