Blue/Pearl Eye Clarks

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these guys. Are they a subspecies or selectively bred? (I was told they did not come from ORA) I am considering setting up an additional tank for these guys if I acquire them. Any information or pics would be appreciated before I consider this venture.

They are still the same species, it is a recessive genetic trait.

Its is a naturally occurring event in the clarkii complex. Sometimes it will appear over 1 eye, sometimes both, most times not at all.

MarinaP had the trait appear in 1 or some of her CB Chrysopterus as well.

traveller7 thank you for the explanation. They are relatively small, less than 2 inches. Do the markings change with maturity? Are these difficult fish to get a hold of if I decide to pass on them?

Mona (mobert here on RC) is the person to ask about pearl-eyed clarkii. Appearance does not change with age as far as I know. They are quite rare, I would get them while you can. Good luck.

They are rare and I wish I had kept a pair. The blue may diminish with age, sometimes but not always disappearing completely. I would definitely set up another tank if they were available.
Here are pics of some I wish I had kept:

Great pics thank you. Did you keep them to maturity or are these offspring that you have raised? Did diet play any role in maintaining the eye coloration?

I hatched and gave them to people I knew and have been trying to get a pair back. I think the blue diminished as the clowns matured and developed adult darker colors. If there is a strong blue---ie more than just a just a dot of blue, it usually stayed.

These look small? I have a pair and was wondering... How big do these get? And at what size / age do they start spawning? Mine are about 2 inches and have started fighting for dominance. (I think they worked it out) one is slightly larger. I've had them for about 8 months now. Beautiful fish.

@Panduriniii did you ever get the pair you mentioned?

Here is the smaller one of mine. They both look about the same except for the size.

I have a pair and they are about a year old the lfs said.. One def bigger than other and is the female lol butnyesnget them if can theynarenabsolutly beautiful and I watch them everyday!

Nice to see other pearl eyed clarkii's out there. I guess they are not so rare. How big and how old? I have yet to see a picture of one of these Clarkii's larger than two inches. I'm wondering about the size to age and when do they start spawning? I have a pair that are figuring out there sex/dominance now, one is already proven herself and has the size advantage to prove it. They are only 2 inches or so. I bought them around August 2012 at about an inch in size. Will they get to 5 inches and how big do they get before they spawn?

my small one is about 2 inches, the big one is about 3 inches.. and i was told they were about a year old.. ill have to put my ruler against the glass to see aprox size.. and i have no idea when they start spawning.. it would be pretty cool to see if their babies have the spots above their eyes.. they are soo beautiful..
