Blue spot jawfish disease

I currently have 2 blue spots in qt. the first be arrived last Friday and already looked like crap with white patches. I used metronidazole for 3 days, and then ran out. I thought it was going to die on Tuesday, so live aquaria sent me a replacement. The first one is still around but is still going
Downhill. The patches are much larger now. The second one I got in on Thursday. Today I noticed part of its tail had a spot that started to look like its
Rotting. So he got moved into a separate 10 gallon and I started kanaplex. The first jawfish was also
In a second 10 gallon but was moved into a 40
Today because of ammonia issues in that tank. What are my options at this point? Can I use chloroquine
Phosphate along with kanaplex? This is a picture of the first one today

Sorry to hear the second got sick too.
I don't know if Kanamycin can be combined with CP or if it would be the best choice in this case.

Did you originally put them together into the same tank?
Do you see any form of slimy secretions or is it just the white patches?
Do they build burrows and are in them or are they just sitting out on the sand?
What was the ammonia issue?

What temperature do you have them at? I think at least in the beginning it is best to keep them at a lower temperature.

I feel if it is just the white, it is most likely a bacterial skin infection. So I would for sure start with an antibiotic as soon as possible.
 
They have never been in the same tank. They aren't building burrows, just sitting on the sand or bottom of the tank. The temp on the tanks is 72. I have been having issues with ammonia collecting from the air in my house, so the big qt is cycled but when I had to move the one over to the 10 gallon to use antibiotics and the ammonia accumulated and no amount of water changes would get it
Below .5 ppm. It's just the white patches on one, and the small amount of tail rot on the other
 
How are yours doing?

I tested the Ammonia in my BSJ QT an the API test kit returned a level of 2 ppm to 4 ppm. I don't know if the test is bad or if these guys can handle a lot of ammonia (I think rather not) as they seem completely unaffected.
In any case I added some AmQuel.

Both are still alive. They are really confusing me. One day they look like they are gonna die, next day fine, and then back again. Neither are making burrows though. Still eating really well. I have found that they like really really
Low flow. Like almost non existent flow. I had to remove one of the powerheads in the qt and just use the hob.
 
Yes, they prefer a steady laminar flow and not the turbulent flow you normally find in reef tanks.

Are you treating them? If yes, with what?

In my experience, as long as they are eating there is hope. When they stop eating while being sick the outlook is rather grim.

So far I fed my two frozen Mysis and live tigger pods and the gobble everything up like there is no tomorrow. Tonight I will see if they also go for pellets.

Mine are getting mysis and brine shrimp soaked in selcon. I figure the brine is better than nothing and when they won't eat the mysis they will eat the brine so for the time being if that's what they are willing to eat then I would rather keep them eating with that then have them starve. They are being treated with kanamycin and metro, at different times not together. No signs of ich or anything like that, so I'm
Postponing that part of qt until they both are completely healed and eating really well.

Honestly, no. They are pretty much at a standstill. The original one is getting worse though I think. It's hard to tell because they are hiding and I don't want to stress then out by moving stuff so I can look at them better
 
Today I tried to introduce them, i put one in a critter keeper and acclimated it to the tank and then placed it into the 40 breeder. It did NOT go well. I definitely have 2 males( or 2 females, but the way they were fighting says males to me). Luckily it was in the critter keeper so no harm done. But man they were vicious

Likely 2 males - 2 females shouldn't fight from all I found out so far.

Can you take some pictures of them?
 
Hey martini have you tried to get them on flake ? With the frozen they need to eat little and often . You may notice they only eat maybe 2 mouthfuls in a feeding, so lots of feeding needed. I found with the flake this is more of a meal for them and they fatten up quicker. Mine likes tetra pro colour crispies. They are sort of a small disc and the perfect size for your jawfish. Agree with the above while its eating you have a chance but I wouldn't put them in your main display unless it's realy quiet in their as this will just give them less oportunity to feed and stress them out even more. Can't help on the bsjd treatment sorry I did lots of searching when mine had it and couldn't find anyone who had a cure. If you're treatments work please post about it . I've subscribed :)
 
No I'm just trying to keep them eating at this point. Eventually I will try and get them to eat pellets as well.

That yours are still alive after 2 and 3 weeks is kind of a good sign. I hope they recover.

I found that they actually like pods a lot. They even pick them off the sand - they have really good eyes.
I added a good scoop of tigger pods form my outdoors culture. The main idea was to add something to the tank that cleans up leftovers and of course to give the fish something to snack on. It took them about a day to pick them all off.
Since I need the pods for my pipefish I now rather feed them Mysis. My two stuff themselves with those until they look like overfilled sausages. Even then they still pick what floats by - just not as ferociously as when they are really hungry.
Off all my fish they are among the best eaters, though they don't seem to be too interested into pellets - I think it's because they look too much like the poo-pellets they produce.

Exactly. I have had no luck and I've really gone away from flakes. I'm hoping that after one of them gets into the display they will pick it up once they see the other fish eat them. We will see. It's actually one and 2 weeks I think
