i have a had a bluefin lion for about 6 months and trained him to eat frozen, Yesterday i did not see him in the tank and look under the canopy and it appears he jumped and got hung up on the glass center brace. Has anyone see na lion jump before? I am wondering if he was being harassed.

Not sure about blackfoots but fuzzies are definetly jumpers. I would imagine they are too. What are the tankmates? Did he die?

Wow that really stinks you lost one that already made 6 months... I'm sorry. I've often heard of lions jumping, though, and it doesn't necessarily mean they're being harassed.

Dang that sucks, sorry for your loss. Good job keeping it 6 months though. They will jump for many reasons, it could have been as simple as somebody walking by the tank and spooking it, that's happened to me before

ya- it was doing very well and growing and eating well. sucks! He got caught up on the glad center piece on the tank so im going to figure out a way that this doesn't happen again.

JD,

First of all, it sux about your fish, but as mentioned, lions can and do jump. :-(

Just out of curiousity, and as another data point, what temp were you keeping your bluefin at? With the list of tankmates, I'm guessing fairly warm.

We're finding that low 60's is about the best temp for these fish long term (we haven't hit a year yet, but are close), as besides being coolwater fish, they have a tendency to contract bacterial infections, and the cooler temps is an aid in that respect.
