Bonehead spills. What have you done?

Overnight for me too.
Of course, a I bought an irrigation (hose end) timer for 25.00 and it never happend again (shuts off in 12 hours or less depending what I set it for; sink faucet adapters was 2 bucks; I have a tank level control now.).
So why doesn't BRS and Purewater guys and other vendors sell these (and maybe a better one) on thier webistes right next to the RO/DI units? I'd bet they sell a lot.

*LOL* Never let it go that long, but went to a nice long dinner once to return to a flooded kitchen.

I did the same thing two weeks in a row in my garage. I was so ****ed after the second time I did it I purchased a couple float valves from BRS. This is one of the best purchases I have made. I turn the ball valve on when I need to fill my RO top off container or mix new salt water and then forget about it. The next morning I turn off the valve just in case the float valve fails but no mess and no need to babysit!

Im guilty also i have a mto rodi turned it on at 6pm needless to sya forgot to set timer woke up at 7am. Do i need to say mor lol

 Does it have to have happened in an Aquarium? I think if it doesnt I GET THE BONEHEAD award of the century.....but I'll wait to hear from KC since he started this thread

I have my ATO plumbed directly into my RO/DI and when I was setting up my system the ATO feed tube which is controled by a silenode became disconnected from clicking off and on during the night. My two year old son woke my wife and I saying daddy made a mess on the floor. 5k to repalce the hardwood floor dammage. I have that silenode on a timer so it can only be on 1 minute every 3hrs now.

Replaced my ASM G3 skimmer with a Reef Octopus external. So I adjusted the riser like I did on my G3, well i got called away for about an hour to come home to no water returning to the DT because my float switch turned off the return pump, but not before the contents of the 100 Gallon sump ended up on my basement floor. I found out that the adjustments on the DNWB200 were a lot more sensitive than the G3, and the adjustments do not show right away.

Thank you all for sharing and keep them coming. It's giving me plenty of ideas to make my new system as fire firghter proof as possible. Sounds like I have a pretty good head start...

I dont know how many times I left the RODI running while distracted by the kids. I did it twice already this week complete with a flooded laundry room and a ****ed off wife. My only reaction was $hiot not again.

Oh man have I done that!!

well since it doesnt just involve aquariums here we go :)
A few years ago me and my family along with some others enjoyed a weekend on the lake.when we got home the boat needed a good cleaning from kids using the back of the boat as a diving board. I figured run the water hose through the boat wash the floor and inner hull out of all the debris in it. THis was around 6:30 at night, My brother-in-law calls me needing help finding a neighborhood he was delivering a car too. I helped him for almost 2 hours finding it (remember the water hose is still in the boat). Well about 3:30 AM. My wife and I are talking to my lil brother who was stationed in Spain on the internet and our internet starts cutting in and out (we had just had some cables replaced for this same prob) so I go out to check the connection.
It sounded like Niagra Falls outback from the water rushing over the transom of the boat.
I screamed a few words that RC wil not let me say :) I ran to turn off the water at the spicket my wife comes running out of the house and she is LMAO. I pull the drain plug on the boat and water shoots out over 30FT into a neighbors yard (water drained from the boat well over an hour). He had to mow his yard 2 times a week that summer while everyone elses yard was pretty much dirt brown.

At least your boat was in your driveway. My boss was telling me how someone didn't wrap the power cord that runs from their boat to the dock & it got knocked out. The bilge pump didn't have power & the boat sank.

I have to setup my RODI in the kitchen when I need to make water then take it down when I'm done. I came out to grab the bucket an hour later & realized I didn't put the drain line into the sink.

LMAO mine was in the backyard. It buried up to the buddy brearings in the axels. Took a 4WD truck to pull it out :)

I've knocked the hose off the pump on my HOB AquaC Remora skimmer twice. The resulting water fountain reached to the ceiling! I can't wait to get a better skimmer setup!

While my worst accident happened during some aquarium maintenance it was actually nothing to do with the water....

I unplugged my pumps in one of my tanks to do some work and a water change and when I pulled back on one of the cords a speaker wire lifted up. This speaker wire was simply marretted together as I hadnt been down to pick up some longer wire yet. The marrette popped off exposing one of the leads which promply fell into the exposed power outlet sending 110v through my sound system.

So.. this 110v surged happily through my Amp, back fed along the RCA cables to my computer and set of wireless headphones cooking everything in its path...

I lost my motherboard, wireless headphones and a very very expensive THC certified amp....

Oops!

My worst WATER spill was like many others.. falling asleep with an RO unit running filling a 65 gallon resevoir. Dumped enough water to cover my living room, computer room, and bedroom floor about a 1/4" deep. Woke up at 4am to a very squishy bedroom carpet!

I love it when my wife calls me when I'm in another country and tells me the tank has a leak. I ask her where and she says "All over the place!". Uggh!

I always end up saying "Can you be a little more specific?"

Followed shortly by "Can you put our son on the phone?" Needless to say - thank God for hardwood (anyone know how long till salt stops seeping out of the slats?)
