Bonsai Tree inspired Aquascape

Great looking tank :) I'm glad I came across this thread since I've got a 30" cube in the works but I think I may got 30 x 36 x 30 tall after seeing what you were able to do with the width in that space...Very nice!

It was you! Did you buy the War Coral colony at ATR?

No dude not me, I did get it there but back in sometime June it was a small piece about 5 eyes it has grown some since then. Did u see anything new/cool when u went there?

Nano mania, yes I did build it myself but it is my first atempt at acrylic and far from show quality LOL hahaha!

I too have a collection of bonsai trees, and have for the last 8 years or so. I love growing them. That elm is very nice by the way.

I have found that pruning corals is much like pruning trees. You can make your corals long and tall, or short with excellent ramification by pruning. Especially with birdsnest corals, or some staghorns. I have been doing some pruning experiments over the last year, and it is pretty cool. Of course, not as much control over a coral as a tree, but close. If one could only prune to an outward facing polyp, and have it branch in that direction like a bud on a tree.........

Great tank and aquascaping.

I have a 4' cube and also did an open landscape display, although not bonsai inspired like yours. Invincibles rimless was my inspiration aswell.

Good luck, you're off to a fine start.

WOW, that is one of best aquascaping i seen in a long time. Great job!!! You make me want to tear down my tank down and redo my aquascaping. ++++++++

What I want to know is how many people have already gone out and bought stuff for a rebuild?

+ 1 here :)

Crazy4acros,
this hobby, at its most basic, is our attempt to simulate nature in an artificial enclosure. On a technical/scientific level, it has now become relatively easy to succeed at this. Especially with all of the equipment and information available to help us these days.
But your aquascape, imo, demonstrates better than any tank I have seen the purely artistic element which is virtually as important to creating 'the whole package' as the science is.
There is a symmetry and natural elegance to your rock work, a sense of vastness which evokes both the permanence and chaotic beauty of a natural reef.....All in a 3 foot cube!!
That was my long winded way of saying, frickin' awesome 'scape, dude!!!
When I get my tank up and running, it will the the feel of your tank and others like Invincible's that I will be trying to create.

Its always amazing to see what can be done in tanks with a lot of front to back depth. Crazy's tank is a perfect example. They always allow for the most interesting displays. Kentrob11, if you can fit the extra 6 inches, I say go for it.
The tank I am building is going to be in-wall- in a closet and I went as deep as I possibly could, leaving myself just enough space to squeeze behind the tank to work on it.

Crazy, what made you go with 36x36? I see that you could have gone longer if you really wanted to...I guess you didn't want to block the entire window? That would be uncharacteristically restrained for a reefer!:)

I guess I have a thing about open non cluttered look. Just like my open aquascape, I did not want that area of the room to look cluttered. I wanted it to be comfortably viewable with easy acsess from all 3 sides. I also love the artistic look of a cubish tank.
