I have a little update on my Booyah's onyx...I moves a few months back and traded fish with Mitch. I didn't want my really great pair falling victim to a crash from a new tank, so he was kind enough to hold onto them for me for now. In the interem, so I can have some fish in my tank still, he gave me some onyx "seconds" (deformed fish that most would have culled - he has a tank of them his little daughter calls hers). Fast forward to last week. I set up a kalk drip system which ended up malfunctioning and dumped 2.5 gallons of kalk into a 30 gallon tank. It looked like there was milk in the tank! Sps was nuked, most lps took a nasty hit also, but my booyah's onyx were swimming like nothing happened!! The most impressive was the new fish (swapped one deformed for one with a misbar) here's the timeline:
Picked up fish at about 2:00 PM. Drove 2 hrs home. Forgot about fish and left it in the car-no cooler- for another 2 hours. Remembered about fish, and dropped it into tank without any acclimation. My salinity is 1.026, Mitch's was 1.009, not to mention the temp difference! 9 hours later my tank was kalk nuked. 3 hours after that I did a 60% water change with fresh, 60 degree SW. New fish continues to swim around like nothing happened. Mitch produces some of the toughest little guys out there!!!
