Booyah's Onyx

Little guy has darker tail already.

Right now I'm feeding with cyclopeeze flakes, frozen cyclopeeze, and formula 2 pellets. Mysis are still too large for them and they're not trying to store it in the rbta for some reason, so I have to manually feed the rbta, which is STILL mostly hiding under a ledge but at least it's waving tentacles out in the light now.

I just got off the phone with Mitch after talking to him for about 45 minutes, he seems like a really cool guy, and definitely knows what he is talking about. I have made arrangements to have a pair shipped to me next week, so I will have them on Tuesday, I can't wait. I'll be sure to post pics to show the progress. Mitch, if you're reading this, "You Da Man!!!"

I'd liked to give a update on my pair. The female i got in sept 09 but its mate died a few months later. Tons of fighting, mitch stepped up and replaced the fish no problems asked. I had just called and was ready to pay for another.

Mine are in a gbta and the new guy came in nice and dark but since in the bta has lost 99% of his color. The female has lost some as well but she was also not in a bta for the first 7 months of me having her.

The good news is that they are happy as a clam. I feed them heavy twice a day with rods food and then on thurdays when i feed the nem with mysis they get stuffed. I'm starting to see cleaning behavior on a rock right beside the nem base. The female doesnt look to have eggs but just tonight i seen her and the male cleaning and she made a pass shakking like she was laying and the male was right behind trying what looked like to put his item in the mix.

Its been a dream of mine since i first started in saltwater tanks to have a nice set of clowns that lay eggs. Even if i dont raise them at first i will eventually try and raise a clutch or two just to say i can do it.

here is the female the day after she found the bta. notice how dark she is compared to now. esp the top fin.

now the happy couple.

I have a little update on my Booyah's onyx...I moves a few months back and traded fish with Mitch. I didn't want my really great pair falling victim to a crash from a new tank, so he was kind enough to hold onto them for me for now. In the interem, so I can have some fish in my tank still, he gave me some onyx "seconds" (deformed fish that most would have culled - he has a tank of them his little daughter calls hers). Fast forward to last week. I set up a kalk drip system which ended up malfunctioning and dumped 2.5 gallons of kalk into a 30 gallon tank. It looked like there was milk in the tank! Sps was nuked, most lps took a nasty hit also, but my booyah's onyx were swimming like nothing happened!! The most impressive was the new fish (swapped one deformed for one with a misbar) here's the timeline:

Picked up fish at about 2:00 PM. Drove 2 hrs home. Forgot about fish and left it in the car-no cooler- for another 2 hours. Remembered about fish, and dropped it into tank without any acclimation. My salinity is 1.026, Mitch's was 1.009, not to mention the temp difference! 9 hours later my tank was kalk nuked. 3 hours after that I did a 60% water change with fresh, 60 degree SW. New fish continues to swim around like nothing happened. Mitch produces some of the toughest little guys out there!!!

Well Mitch was ever so kind as to sell me one of his clowns and what a beautiful clown he is. Mitch and his wife came over to my place too bad I was out of beer and brought a few amazing fish with them. My girl was at work when it all went down and when she got home she loved him. Mitch also turned me on to this forum. Thanks Mitch! I look forward to doing business with you in the future. with out further a due here he is

I will take a video of him tomorrow and post it

I like how the middle mis-bar is a spot! That will look really cool as the clown fully matures and the rest of the body goes jet black. Congrats on a great looking clown, Mitch always delivers with great looking fish!
