Booyah's Onyx

Interesting update.....they just picked a spot above one of the hadonni's and started breeding. The female has chewed here mouth up by picking at the rock where they are laying their eggs, but they are indeed doin it. I don't think that this batch will work out due to all of the other fish in the tank, but I am going to setup the 30 that I have sitting on the side. I think I will put one of the anomonies in with them (three to choose from).

why? they are nice and healthy and breeding because they are happy. If you change their environment, they will most likely stop doing so.

My Onyx Percs breed every two weeks and have done so for three years now. They have a dead monti- cap that they always lay eggs on. It too is right next to the large sinularia that they host in. The Monti skeleton is cup shaped and about 3 inches. I remove the Monti with the eggs on the night of the expected hatching and raise the fry in a 2.5 gallon eclipse. If I don't put the Monti back in exactly the same spot they just don't lay again. My clowns have gone as long as 6 weeks without the Monti-Cap with no spawning. Within 10 days of replacing the Monti- Cap they were back at it again. :)

I just figure that the brood will not survive in a tank full of other fish that will eat them. I do not intend to breed and sell, but if I was successful in having these guys breed and a brood resulted, I would simply give them to Mitch for him to sell.

That's not how it works, you have to remove the larvae and put them somewhere safe, mooving the pair will most likely result in them stopping breeding for 6 month or longer.

Here's a VERY poor photo update on my Booyah's Onyx clowns. Sorry for the bad pictures, they really didn't want to get their picture taken today.

I dont think Roy[ieatchinese] is moving his Breading pair.He was saying He will remove the eggs or Larvae.Roy knows what he is doing.....

I went over to Mitch's earlier in the week to pick up a pair of onyxs. He took me on a tour and explained his setup, which is amazing. It has to be seen to believed.

I picked out two misbarred. The male has a interesting pattern, and was affectionately called "Cap'n" by Mitch. Sorry for the bad picture quality. My lack of skills, fast fish, and point and shoot camera don't mix well I suppose. They're doing great so far, already eating pellets. Thanks again Mitch!

I appoligize if this is a repeated question but how does one get in contact with Mitch? I know he's in Algonquin but I don't see any address or website info.

Thanks for the help.

Do onyx keep the orange head and some orange on the body or do they turn all black? New to these awesome fish

Booyah's Onyx is a clownfish breeder in the Chicagoland area. They don't have a website, but you can call them and arrange shipping. Last I heard, they were shipping about anywhere as long as you pay fo the shipping cost. The phone number should be listed somewhere on this thread, but just in case: 708-715-0424, ask for Mitch, he'll set you up. As far as what they will look like when mature, do a google search for Onyx Clownfish and you'll get a lot of hits. Generally, they'll keep an orange face, and some orange on the fins as well.

Also, just look up a few responses: 06/06/2009 07:40 PM from ieatchinese, he has some really good before and after pictures from when they were young, to now when they are mature.

So about 6 months ago I bought a couple of onyx clownfish from Mitch AKA Booyah. When I purchased the fish, Mitch gave me a guarantee that if I did not like the coloration of the fish, he would let me exchange them!

Mitch is a man of his word, and an excellent breeder. Here are my new Onyx Clowns! Check out the bar on the male, both sides of him have a bit of a swirl, very cool!!

I don't know of any other place you can swap out fish many months later just because you want to. Also, those are very black forbeing "new" fish.

I just picked up a pair from Mitch's house on Saturday. Here they are:

The bottom one is the female with traditional barring. The top one is the male; he is miss-barred.

They came with a great guarantee so I will see how they turn out in my tank. Thanks again Mitch.
