Bought new led light fixture from China.

How many CW's to make a difference?

Can I ask why you have more RB then B. I would have thought the RB spectrum is better?

I would do half and half CW. As far as RB or B it really does not matter much as long as you mix them up. I used two more blue than RB but I could have gone the other way too. Depending on which brand leds or even what bulbs are used you will get different spikes in the spectrum. The best penetration is anywhere between 420 and 470. You want a range because not all corals use the same light.

RB and B or CB are the same for Ledzeal, in my fixture there is no difference.

It's hard to tell the difference but it's there. The problem is that it's not exact and if the RB's are around 450nm and the B are at 460 you won't notice with your eyes or a camera. It also depends on the brand of led. Here is a thread asking the same question you did using cree leds.

I got my S300 late yesterday afternoon. 2 days earlier than expected. Great service !!!

Too late to put them up so too them out and made sure that everything was working. Wow. just wow.... Compared to my last unit, this slim design and so light compared to my previous setup. I'm going to play around today with a setup BUT talking about that - does anyone have a video or talk thru on how they did there setup - Gillguy - hint - hint - lol

Well worth every penny and big thumbs up to Kevin and his crew - very impressed with their email support - delivery - and product outcome.

Dechalac congrats. Mine are mounted with bolts to the canopy. Be careful if you are hanging them. The screws they come with sucks. Maybe they have changed them since I bought mine. If not you need to find new ones. If you have a problem setting up the diy program there is a post somewhere on this thread with instructions.

You don't by any chance have a spreadsheet or way to show mw how to create my own DIY light setup. I want to start gradually and ramp up the light % like you mentioned earlier on in your post. Would you have a walk through available to follow

Cheers
Chris

No spreadsheet but follow instructions on post #162.

I have red zoas in my tank. Do I need a red bulb to to make them pop? I told Kevin I wanted a custom led layout and went with this, which another member used. My 240g cube will be delivered on Monday. I'm super excited about it.
RB ---- RB ---- RB
B ----- B ------ B ------ B
W ----- W ----- W
UV ---- B ------ B ---- UV
W ----- W ----- W
B ----- B ------ B ------ B
RB ---- RB ---- RB

My light was also to be delivered on Monday, but I cant wait, called fedex and I am going to pick it up at the facility today. Yay me :)

The red leds do make red corals and red fish pop but only when they are directly under the light. So if you some some you might need to move your corals. For coral growth they are not need.

I was thinking about getting a group buy going for these in the near future if anyone would be interested.

Hi All,

Thanks for the very informative thread. I'm considering S300 for myself as well, and having difficulty finalizing the LED configuration. If the small number of green and red LEDs are purely for looks only and may cause "disco" effect (covering only the section under the LED lamp itself) should I just forget about it and focus on the rest of the light spectrum?

I'm considering UV:RB:B:W in 1:1:1:1 ratio.. what would be the downside of this configuration?

Also, I'm not quite following the need for various white LEDs (3000K/10000L/13000K) and need to mix them.. what's the purpose?

Thanks,
Yuri

I'm totally in for a gb. Shipping would save tons alone. If we want to get it together in the next week or so that would be great. :)

White light is made of a mixture of red green and blue.mix them and you get white. By having varying whites you get different peaks of different colors, such as your reds and greens and such. That's my understanding. Just look up a spectral analysis of different kelvins to see it visualized.
