Bought new led light fixture from China.

Those Par reading aren't too bad really. More than enough I think personally. well done for getting those reading mate

Cheers
Chris

Thanks I asoomed par and spectrum is whats important really lol.

Gillguy do you know of what brands of parts use. Like power supply and drivers. (Just to know if its good brand quality). That should help me decide tonight on ordering...

I just found the drivers mean well. Thats good. Is the power supply good quality? And what color is every ones s300 unit ? Looking for black

Just ordered my 2 x S400, can't wait to get these above the tank, excited
I went for GillGuy's layout with 120 optics on the red and greens with 90 optics on all the other colours
I also asked for 14k whites instead of 12k

Those PAR reading are through air though not water, wouldn't they be dramatically decreased by the water ?

Par is necessary for proper placement of corals but it is over rated. Usually 300-500 mv will allow you to maintain most SPS. I don't know what par meter Ledzeal used but one thing I know is that par reading through water are difficult especially with a cheap meter. Also, spectrum affects the reading. Blue light on a fixture needs to be calculated differently than white. Also, water movement, rocks, and water clarity will affect readings. I have a mixed reef. As far as SPS, I have an Acro mother colony in the center and up high and a large frag from the same colony to the side and low in the tank and both are healthy and growing. I don't know what's the difference in par between them but it's got to be at least 200 mv. So yes, par readings through water will be lower but accuracy is a concern. I also believe this unit has higher readings than what Ledzeal measured but even if they are correct, anything over 300mv is good.

Planning on picking one of these up soon. Do you think the 14k whites will provide a better spectrum over the 12k whites or what will the major benefit be?

The difference between 12000k and 14000k is not much. The 14k will have less red, yellow, and orange. The higher the K the bluer the bulb but in this fixture that is not necessary because of all the blue and uv leds you have.

Hello Everyone,
A friend of mine recently told me about the Malibu S series and I like the look of these lights. I am doing my final tank upgrade from a 180g to a 240g cube (48 x 48 x 24). Which lights and how many do you think would work for my new setup? What color combo do you recommend with what degree lens? I like a 20K blue look and the only corals I keep are zoas and palys. Your help is greatly appreciated.

It all depends on height above the water. If the lights will be above 12 inches you can use three of the S300 units. Daisy chained and placed side by side front to back. At 12 inches the light spread on each unit covers an area front to back of approximately 18 inches. So, three units spaced about 1-2 inches will give you full coverage. I would go with 60 optics at that height lower you need 90 optics to cover each side. Of course if you are worried about the depth at 24 inches, then you can go with the S400, 4 foot version and use 60 degree optics and then you can put it at any height you want and have full coverage.

If you want closer to a 20k look. don't use any red or green on channel 4 and replace them with RB or B.

Just thought I'd pop inn with the led setup for the S120 model the shortest one with 40 leds instead of 24LED clusters.

Unless you like your tank with a white look I would remove some whites and add more blue leds. Plus the blue spectrumis best for coral growth. That layout gives you 18 blue, 2 UV, and 16 white. Then you add 2 red which are basically white and the ratio is not good. I would change all of the whites on channel four to Royal Blue

I was thinking the exact same thing. I just thought I'd show the setup for them. I'm thinking 4 of these babies (we will possibly be looking at 16-20 units some more people so looking on offer on price) Its either that or the S400. Swapping for blues in GRP 4 and also going for 14k whites instead og 12k. degrees on white and blue + 90 on UV red+ green. Bout 10 inches from the water.

i was planning on ordering 8 of the s120s. does anybody have a layout for them? i was gonna pair those with 2 s200 for optimal spread he said they would work together well. i wanted more blue than anything as blue as possible if anyone could help me out thanks.

i was also told the leds are only warrantied one year unlike the others that offer 3. how much are the replacement plucks anyway?

I think it said on reefbreeders.com (different provider) usd$1.50 for all but violet 1.90 per led I inow there is a site for diy for different brands for like 3-5 a led I belive.

I just wasnt able to do the ledzeal. I went with the reefbreeders for the extra 1yr of warranty for the extra $50 I was quoted for the s300. Sry guys

Thank you for helping me. I sent Kevin an email regarding the S400.

Troy you won't be upset with the Reefbreeder. It's a proven product. I almost pulled the trigger on them but this unit just looked better and seemed well made before I purchased it. Time will tell on reliability but I believe this time next year Ledzeal will be a common name in the market.

Gillguy, I received a reply from the email I sent to Kevin last night. He recommends 3 of the 3ft long Malibu S200 with 90 degree lens if hung, 120 degree if stood on the tank with a bracket. Thoughts??
