Bought new led light fixture from China.

Yes, the fan on the power supply is loud, and that is the biggest downside of this unit. I did let Kevin know about this, and he's aware of it too. I don't think we can get LedZeal to improve this on units already shipped. I'll look for a solution in the near future.

OK, kind of, at least I'm not the only one and is possible LedZeal can resolve. I will need to address this soon as my wife will not tolerate the sound.

Gillguy is there much benefit to going with the s200 over the s150 on my 900mm long tank?
The s200 is 900mm same as my tank. Would the extra leds be beneficial or would the s150 be just fine?

Cheers

Hi I am also buying these lights my tank is not a reef tank but a freshwater with Super red in it Kev advised me to buy 2x S300 (tank is 8' so two 3' in line) I will also have a couple of colour tanning lights for the super red along side them,... cost was 890 USD with wireless controller/all the hanging stuff and delivery ...

The S300 is a 4' light fixture, these will still work for your tank, but will fit full length. Hopefully light does not spill outwards too far.

I have 4' tank and S300 fits just fine, even with 120deg optics, there's very little light spill.

I swapped 8 green LEDs with UV. Now I have 4 channels with each having one spectrum only - 12000K white, blue, royal blue, UV.

Is the fan not something that you could swap out? As in get a quieter one and do a DIY replacement?

My psu will be in the cabinet so hopefully it won't be too loud

You can. Its a standard cooling fan you can find in any computer. Once you know the size, you can find one online for sure

I will open up mine to obtain full specs of the fan in the power supply this weekend. I doubt it is the "standard" size used in computers. Looks much smaller which is why it's also louder.

Anyway, here' a good reading on reef lighting - http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2012/10/aafeature

and this will hopefully help customizing your LED lighting system.

I've built several computers in the past, the cooling fans are not all the same size, however there are standard sizes within a range. In other words, LED Zeal is not using a custom sized cooling fan

Having more Leds is always better but sometimes not needed. Getting the bigger unit gives you more options like higher or lowering the unit or changing options. Obviously getting the s200 is best if your tank is tall cause you could use 60 optics for deeper penetration

The tank is roughly 36" wide but only 19.5" deep, so you reckon the s150 is fine on the leg mounts as I'd rather not hang it which I'd need to with the s200

SILFER, please look back a few pages, I posted pics of my setup. I have the S150. My tank is 36x18x12.5. I think you can get a pretty good idea of how it will look

No unit is prefect. The fan on power supply is louder than I would like but in my setup I can't here it cause it's inside my bottom cabinet. For those that have it outside you will hear it turn on and off when it kick on especially when intensity of lights increase. Changing the fan could help. I believe ledzeal will make improvements to the unit and this situation with fan will be one they tackle.

Well, there's no such thing as "standard size" cooling fan, I was just referring to those off-the-shelf cooling fans commonly used by, typically, DIY computer systems. Many companies do order use custom made cooling fans of specific size/speed/voltage for their own specific needs.

By looking at the specs and size, we'd be able to tell if there's a replacement part that is quieter than what came with the power supply. My concern is that the noise mostly comes from the fan itself, and if that speed is indeed necessary to move so much air for cooling purpose, we may not have a good solution *even if* the replacement model is available.

However, there's still a chance to do some custom mod on it, something like adding a larger fan (may need to drill some holes for ventilation) that runs more quietly and be able to provide necessary cooling capacity. For this, ideally, I need to be able to monitor the temperature of the part/place where the thermal sensor is attached to, since it appears to kick in at certain temperature.

I email Kevin about the issue. The power supply is made by Meanwell, and LEDZEAL is looking into modifying or adding a larger fan. This would not happen any time soon but at least they are looking into it. He also mention that if issues arise they are covered by their 3 yr warranty.

BTW, I got some SPS during a local frag swap, nothing fancy. They are doing great under the lights so far.

Looks good, Cheers bud. I'm going to get the s150 then but will be using the leg mounts, reckon 90 degree optics will give enough spread? My tank is roughly 19" deep and wide.

I'm not getting red leds but will have a couple greens, 90 fine on them for my tank or 120?
Thanks again

I got the same response from Kevin last night. Nice to see they are always looking for improvements. I think I will get mine ordered.

I'd recommend to reconsider. Those green LEDs are pretty strong, and without reds you may get too much of green cast over your tank.

Please read the link I provided earlier - http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2012/10/aafeature. I now have white, blue, royal blue,

I actually have the s300 on my 5ft tank right now, with gillguys custom layout minus the reds and RB in their place (so 4 greens total, no reds) and I love the colour they give off, also using his intensities / time schedule.

I opted no reds as I wanted a bluer look and the RB is good for coral growth, I personally do not find a green hue at all, they blend perfectly.

I'd liken the look to the old 400w 20k radiums, maybe not so intense tho. Personal choice :)

But still curious on the question there about the optics on the s150 on leg mounts on my tank dimensions.

Cheers!

-edit: also on my s300 i went 90 optics on all (green included) and on my 5ft tank, 24" deep they blend perfect, no spotlight. But not sure if 120 would be better for my new tank as it's not as deep, only 19"
