Bought new led light fixture from China.

Julio. I have seen some tanks that are pitch blue all the times. I don't want the tank to look to Dark

Will so many royal blue make it to Dark?

No. Believe me, with only 6 whites and one red on each cluster it will be plenty white. It's actually too white for my liking. Also remember that you can control the channels to fit your color temperature. Take a look if you haven't already at page 15 post 357 it's a youtube video I made. It shows the color of the unit with and without T-5's. It has my DIY and at 100%.

I actually met Tony Vargas at Macna and spoke to him in length about his tank. He uses Ecoxotic cannons leds which are great lights but very expensive. Each cannon is about $475 and they do give a very crisp awesome light but too much money for me. That look is approximately a 12k. If that's what you want then instead of using 4 Royal blues on channel four with the red and green, I would use 2 whites 12k, 2 royal blue 440-450, a red and a green or take out the green and add another 12k. That should give you a similar color to Tony's tank.

I know mega money. This change will be on your original layout or on the one they send me?

How will that mod lol on the one they send me. By just removing green?

Here if you want to use the layout they sent you. I modified it to give you a 12k look. Channel #4 has 3 whites 12k, 1 red, and 2 Royal Blue. They alternate on each cluster. All other channels stay the same. Good luck

Gillguy, I'm downsizing my tank to one with the dimensions 90cm x 50cm x 50cm (in inches roughly 35x19.5x19.5). Will be using the legs so the base of the unit itself will only be about 5~6" from the water level (which is roughly 2" below the top of the tank).

What unit and optics would you recommend for the above? I could possibly use hanging wires to raise the light unit, but would much prefer the legs if it will work?

Thanks

How deep is your tank? You may want to go with 120's or a combo of 120's and 90's. If you can hang about 12" from water, would be ideal.

19.5" deep, but will be 1~2" of sandbed.

Are the leg mounts out of the question for this tank?

If it's not going inside a canopy then you should use the S200 (36 inches) with 90 optics and yes you can use the brackets which will put the unit apprx 6 inches off the water. If it's in a canopy then go with 2 S120 (16 inches) Now if you raise the unit above 12 inches use 60 optics.

there is no canopy, only problem is the s200 is 900mm long, my new tank will be 900mm long so the legs wont work as they stick out a little so wouldn't sit on the tank?

It would be the same as the one they sent you. Channel #4 was the only difference.

your original layout, after amy emails with Kevin the pic showing ALL LED is their latest proposal. to add white as you suggested I took your original and lay out "Add More white 1 ", "Add More white 1A "
and "Add More white 1 ". kind like the idea of leaving the green. Maybe go "Add More white 1A"

What do you think. this will be Gillguy-2K Mod lol.

Nearly at the point of ordering but before I do....

I will be using the mounting legs for a S200. The legs will sit on top of the side of the canopy. The top of the canopy is 7 inch above the water line. I seem to remember reading that the legs raise the unit by 4 inch which gives me 11 inch height in total

The new setup will be 36 inch long by 24 inch wide and 24 inch deep.

Am i right to assume that 60 optics would be the correct option with the exception being for any red or green which should have 120 optics

As for customer service all I can say is that Kevin has been great. I sent my original mail and he responded within a day with the details. He has since mailed me to ask if i have any further questions and if i am ready to order. Never known CS like that from a UK company

Thanks in advance

rlan, I personally would go with your last photo. "add more white 2" It's basically my layout and replacing the green. It's more uniform and has more royal blues which are beneficial for corals. It also allows you in the future to replace the red with 12k white if you need a whiter look and it does not disrupt the uniformity. Just remember that each cluster needs to alternate.

Like I have said before. A tank with 24 inch length using 60 degrees at 12 inches is borderline for full coverage. Stej I would order them with 60's and test it on your tank but I would also order some 90's from Kevin just in case. Replacing them is really easy.
