Bought new led light fixture from China.

Ah, I see

I actually don't know what happened with my mrs. I went out for a 2ft cube and she insisted on the 3ft
Then I said will have to cut hood and she said don't bother and remove the cover.... I keep waiting to be hit with a massive request for something!

Uh oh! Any hints about the sofa looking tired!!

Anyone else seeing crazy coral growth with these. My corals are doing way better than when I had MH. I wont go back.

What lighting schedule and settings are you using??

I've been following this thread for quite a while and purchased the s400 unit customised the same as Gillguy's. Have to say I'm very impressed although I am finding it very frustrating that my tank is currently empty awaiting the front glass pane being replaced before I set it up. I do have it set up over the empty tank though while I'm waiting so I can play around with settings etc. lol

So gillguy, the 100$ question, if you were to buy your unit now would you have the red and green LEDs or not! I'm about to order and can't make up my mind!! Also as it's going to be hanging about four inches from the water I thought 90 degree lenses on all but the red and greens and go 120 if I have them.

I would probably order it without the green. it doesn't hurt to have them but not much benefit. I would replace them with UV. I would keep the red. I like the color it produces. For you I would use 90 and 120 on the red and green.

Hi guys happen to chance upon this thread. Btw I'm from singapore, i have been running 3x s150 in my 300gal tank for about 6mth everything was good about the light. Sps growing well but some lps not doing good. I was told by one of my lfs that was due to UV being too strong. Still not sure whether was that due to UV or water. I too was worried about their aftersales, but willing to give it a shot. Alot of people worried about after sales service but i have been in touch with them buying spare leds and parts and they still willing to serve me well.

Hi guys I really like these lights, have been looking at them for some weeks now, and now I need to decide between a 3ft and 4ft fixture.

I am running a 4 x 2 x 2 Mixed Reef with fish and LPS only. So my question to the guys that have done a lot of research into these lights,

would you go the 3ft with cree and suspend a foot above water line for about $510aud delivered, or,

the 4ft with Bridgelux for about $545 aud with the brackets delivered (brackets allow me not to hve to hang straight away).

and for those who think the 3 ft makes best sense, what config would you go with and what optics? would 90 degrees at 12 inches give full coverage, remembering Cree don't do UV???

Thanks in advance.

Rick

Thanks in advance guys.

Sorry guys perhaps a few more notes about my tank and requirements might also help. I will post a couple of pics as well.

My tank has been setup for about two years and as you will see has good coralline algae, and its parameters apart from the occasional spike have been in line with the law of averages so to speak.

Like many reefers started with ceratin things that were budget items one of which was my lights being a chinese 2 channel 120w LED unit 50/50 Blue/white, it has done a great job but I have seen some lovely corals die of late and when everything else has been in good control I am left with a suspicion that my cheap light is starting to fail, more importantly if I want to move/add SPS it just wont stand up.

The corals I have lost have been some beautiful acans, scolly australis' and torches at the bottom of the tank, so sensing a message here.

no I see the likes of Zedar, Gillguy and many other have gone to a lot of effort, and I like many others, can tend to procrastinate when deciding on the next piece of reef equipment, but I cant afford to lose any more of my corals, so I really need your advice/assistance

Like I stated earlier my tank is 4 x 2 x 2, I run a 3ft sump with skimmer, p04 reactor, and 3 way doser, have great flow with variable pumps that are up to the task, so everything else in the tank is solid, but lights are questionable.

Once again the question, do I go 3ft Cree or 4ft Bridglux, as my tank is exactly 117mm wide (internal measurement) and the S300 is 120mm I guess that the bracket will be no good can anyone confirm? Also the fish I keep are Yellow tang, blue tail wrasse, leopard wrasse, Red Hawkfish, Coral Beauty, 2 x clowns, foxface, and may add up to 10 dispar anthias if I ever find the right coloring I am chasing, fish detailed to hep understand the colors flashing by in my tank.

Thanks in advance

Rick

P.S. the last image is when I felt everything was working in harmony, a few lost corals since then :debi:

I have always said that if you can fit the light and afford it, use the bigger size. Buying the S300 (4Ft) will allow you to use 60 degree optics for penetration. You could also order some 90 optics and place them around the edges for better coverage front to back if needed. It will depend on your aqauscape. The cree's are not needed or worth the extra cost. The bridgelux are proven leds. The S200 (3Ft) will also work but it is recommended if you have a canopy because the S300 won't fit unless you make modifications. Nice tank by way.

Thanks Gillguy, my initial plan was the S300 but have probably been driving Kevin crazy on over analysing :-)

So to steal some more of your IP, what do you recommend as the better layout, I have been reading all these posts too much red, not enough uv, and of course mixture of 60 or 90 degree optics, etc etc, be interested in your thoughts

Thanks in advance. (and thanks for the feedback on the tank)

As I mentioned in post 925. I would probably order them without the green leds. I would replace them with UV. I like the reds a lot because of the color it brings out in my red/orange corals and fish. Your tank is 24 inches tall so I would use 60 degree optics.

Thanks Gillguy, I am going to go with the S200 after all but with Bridgelux as you recommend, reason being that I will upgrade my tank in the next year to either a 6ft or 7ft and 2 x S200's would look better than two different sized lights suspended over my tank.

I will replace the green with UV as you recommend and will run 60's through the body of the light and 90's around the outside border, I think this then covers all of your recommendation, plus I will order a mix of 30 additional optics plus the extra mounting bolts you had mentioned in another post.

does this sound good, thanks for all of your hard work

Sounds like a good plan.

Here is what I am ordering for any of those looking for the S200 layout following pretty much all of Gillguys recommendations.

I have now !

I actually noticed the plane fly over with the banner reading "Sharkman has pressed the button"

Will be here in no time at all and did you check the invoice to make sure that everything was on it?
Its a costly mistake if you missed anything
