Bouncing 6101

Hello

I have a 6101 (old model) that's about three years old. Been working like a charm, then began making a clicking sound when turning on and starts with a bounce (connected by a Tunze magnet).

Possible concerns? Would like to be proactive to prevent any damage.

Thanks

I would make sure the arm is in the pump so all 6 "fins" are engaged, it can be slid in at an angle so only 2-4 are engaged. Also, the pump hangs from the arm, it does not sit above the arm. I would make sure the pump is clean and the bearing bush 3000.620 is in all the way. If it is loose the drive unit could hang up and jump a bit on start up. Besides that, some movement is normal.

Well....things get worse :(

I followed your instructions and all went well, although it's still bouncing a little, but no big deal. I figured since I was cleaning one, I might as well clean the other.

After cleaning the other 6101 (not the bouncing one) and re-assembling it, I put it back in the tank. Worked fine.....for about 10 minutes, then the pump started to jump every time it started but the impeller would only wiggle a little but not fully rotate. I took it out, reassembled and confirmed the impeller and bearing bush were seated corrected but no go. Now, the impeller wont even wiggle when on.

Help....:headwally:

Hey Roger, so far so good! I'm very hopeful. The oring was on the bottom, but by taking it out and re-positioning, it seemed to do the trick.

Although, one question....neither one of my pumps have the piece to the very left of the picture? What is that? Do I need it?

Thanks

The part on the left is a collar that inserts at the top of the hole, you will see two notches where you can pry it out.

It may be that the motor is failing. I couldn't say without seeing it, but in the case you describe the only possibilities are the motor or the drive unit. If the drive unit magnet is cracked this can also cause this problem, a cracked magnet has two N and two S poles.

I'll try switching the drive unit from the pump that is working as see how it goes. The drive unit magnet doesn't have any cracks.

Thanks,

Hey Roger,

No luck. I switched the imepellers between the functioning and non-functioning pumps. The good pump continued to work without a problem, the bad one still wont start up. Just a little movement, but it wont turn over.

Then I switched the bearings and no change.

Any ideas from here?

Thanks

Not sure if this helps but.....

I noticed the 24v (fuse?) was flashing on the electrical adapter on the pump that is not working.

I switched the adapters between the two pumps. When I attached the 2nd adapter to the non-functioning pump, it also began to flash. When the 1st adapter was attached to the functioning adapter, it stopped flashing and remained solid red.

Not sure if this explains anything?

Unfortunately the motor is toast. The only repair is the 6105 upgrade which has the same part number of the motor block of the 6101- 6101.015. The blinking means a short is present and it is overloading the power supply. The 6101.015 is a complete 6105 pump and an adapter clamp and while it is not cheap, $198.85, in 2009 when the 6101 motor was available it was $240.99.
