An ancient magnetic ballast, or so I assume it to be.

yeah, I agree. I have never tested for calcium before. I was reading the directions on how to use it and I am missing the tip that goes on the syringe. How vital is that to the test?

The ballast appears to be in decent shape. Usually when I see them for sale used on Craigslist, they are rusted up (yet still working well).

It would probably drive a good number of 250W bulbs pretty well. It indicates that it's compatible with H37 bulbs also (which I think are Mercury Vapor)---- if that's the case, it's the ideal ballast to drive the legendary Iwasaki 6500K super-PAR lamp. There are a few reefers that use that lamp and swear by them.

I'll do a little more research on the ballast and see what I can dig up on it. I just thought that magnetic ballasts were practically obsolete with noise and lack of efficiency.

It did come with a capacitor actually, but the whole system is real shady looking...it all looks very used . I will probably end up giving it to someone to wants it.
