Brain coral: Dome forming or plating?

Hey, I'm interested in getting a brain coral like a favia. Is there a way to tell if a brain coral is going to fill out in a dome shape, spread out like a plate, or will encrust rock? I plan on buying a small frag.

What about acans?

From what I've read, it depends on placement. Put it on the sand and it'll grow into a ball, put it on the rock and it'll encrust.

Yep, but trust me, it takes a good while to get it to look like the colonies you see for sale. A good while

mine took about a year to grow from the edge of the domed part out.
