Breeder opinions on latz or leucs?

WetSleeves-I fed them brine, mysis, formula2,shrimp,and different pellet and flake foods. They were not picky. Traveller7-Thanks for posting. I hope my new blks do ok, they are acting like they will spawn soon. There is another thread going now with a guy who has saddles spawning. I wish MarinaP and others would tell their experiences with saddle fry.

Pretty sure Marina's broke up prior to breeding, one of my juniors moved in the the male->female candidate. Not sure of current status.

fwiw: My males were cleaning for almost a year with no eggs.

Yeah, this is the only place I'm known as anything but WDLV. I had some difficulties with my account when I first started here so I had to create a new screen name.
Not any more ;>)

Drop one of us a line if you run into trouble in the future :)

Cheers.

Traveller7-My pair never cleaned until a couple of days before they laid the eggs. My new pair have not cleaned anything yet but the female is getting ripe. Who knows, we will see. I feel like maybe I should set up more pairs just in case someone wants to become a girl. I'm so stupid I sold off all my babies. The stores kept asking for more,so I let them all go. I never thought my male would go get a sex change!

I am sorry I let my batch go too, but over time they really wanted more space then I could afford to provide them :( Started with 7 and they broke down to pairs:

I'm really starting to think that tank size is a factor in the comfort level of many of these "difficult" species. some are lucky (or skilled) enough to get them to breed in smaller systems but for the average joe that may be too difficult.

Speaking of difficult species, I got 4 nice lookin' nigripes today. They'll be in a QT with Formalin as soon as I get home. Wish me luck!

I'll be on the lookout for used 120s priced to sell in the near future. It's a nice size tank. I figure four tanks to a system would be a nice size to start with. As i acquire more pairs I can size the tanks accordingly. I can't see percs needing more than a 20 gallon.... We'll see.

One more thing.
A HUGE THANK YOU GOES OUT TO TRAVELLER7 FOR CHANGING MY NAME BACK TO WDLV!!!

Best of luck and hoping they are chewing on you within a few weeks ;>)

Oddly, my pair has become quite docile since putting them in a private setting.

fwiw: I am a fan of larger tanks to get the fish breeding based on experience with my 300gal, all the clown pairs that took a turn in there bred.

MarinaP's chrysopterus bred in a 90gal
My chrysogaster breed in a 65ish gal
Nigripes bred in the 300gal first, now in a 15gal
B&W ocellaris bred in the 300gal first, then a 10gal, now in a 20H.

Personally, I would like to try a few more 36"Lx24"Wx24"H tanks in my collection vs the 48"L tanks.

Who makes the 36x24x24??? I could probably do a single halide over something like that if I aquascape for it.

I am not aware of current major manufacturers constructing a 36"Lx24W" :( Closest is the 58/65gal on the 18"W base but I would prefer the additional footprint, so I have been looking custom builders.

fwiw: I run a single 150wt 20K over this one

I just wanted to say I may not respond to every post, but I appreciate all the participation and I am taking your ideas and experience under consideration. This is the best response on this topic I've had to date. I'm learning and that's the best I can hope for.
I'm thinking the idea suggested by traveller7 of starting with a larger tank then moving them to a smaller tank once they're spawning as has a lot of potential. This is a direction I will definately explore. Since I already have my 210 gallon reef mostly broken down except for a few miscellaneous corals and several large anemones I can explore this option without spending any money.

Thanks all.
