Breeding Clams

Undoubtedly some of you have read the few articles that can be found on the internet concerning captive breeding of giant clams. I don't know of any farms in the US, but has anyone thought of attempting this? A few members seem to have experienced accidental spawning, possibly due to stresses that farmers use to the same effect, but thereafter seems to lie the challenge of rearing the clams in the larval and planktonic stage. Other than the cost setback, what is to keep the daring hobbiest from attempting captive breeding of clams? I'd be interested to know other people's experiences.

The main thing is the costs involved due to the scale of the setup required. Search the archives, this has been discussed many times, also have a look for the books by Daniel Knop and Dr. Richard Braley for more information.
