Breeding of angelfishes

I have read that some angelfishes e.g emperor angelfish do a vertical ascent of something like 3-9m during spawning.

However I have also heard of similar occurrences in tanks as shallow as 3 feet.

Furthermore, some companies are breeding angelfishes successfully in a closed system.

How is this possible?

Are you sure they're actually breeding them? (Which would be good but as far as I know only some of the dwarf species are actually being successfully bred AND raised in captivity.) It's my understanding the "captive raised" large angels and tangs are being collected at the post larval stage in the open ocean prior to settlement then raised in captivity until salable size.

While there is post larval collection of holacanthus, there are ponds in Bali that a company has numerous angel species in. His latest hatch was Clarions.
