I take it you have a species of puffer breeding for you. Do you know what species (scientific name)?
Puffer breeding is a pretty interesting subject. There seems to be an amazing diversity in spawning habits in that group. Some are dermesal spawner's, and some apparently are broadcast spawner's. Those differences even occur in different species within a genus. Makes it hard to generalize. You actually have to pick a species and research it instead of making inferences based on another species spawning methods that you might already know. Keeps us on our toes learning The eggs on whole, seem to be fairly large throughout the puffers with the larvae being of decent size. This usually, but not always, makes first foods easier to come up with. clownfish75 mentioned porcupine puffers, there are accounts of one species of Diadontidae larvae being reared on rotifers followed by brine shrimp nauplii.
Hello!
I breed Carinotetraodon travancoricus . http://dwarfpuffers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5484
I love them becouse they are qute and really funny. It would be a challenge to manage breeding some marin puffers. I just don´t know that much about them . My H.reidi got babies only 3 weeks after i got them. So maby it´s not impossible to breed some "salt puffs".
How big are the baby puffers when they hatch? generally Freshwater species have larger eggs than marine species.
I would however expect that some species of puffer particularly Species of the genus Canthigaster are possible to spawn as pairs can be easily established, little to no info exsists on the eggs of this genus though.
They are really small. About the same size as new hatched artemia. . I feed them microworms the first weeks. They don´t manage to eat artemia until thay are about 3-4 weeks old.
Irene,
problem is that actually there are not SW dwarf puffers. We have the sharp nose Canthigaster "tobies",but real puffers all grow very big. This makes them being bred by aquaculturists,as food fish. They are raised in Japan and also in Mexico.Hormones are used.
