Bring out your rares!!! for the BAR swap

Dots - nice effort. :D
IME, the hobby and the business can't really put their heads together on anything, so if you wanted any classification system, I think you would have to make it happen on one side of the other (that's really the hobby side).
Rare changes from location to location, and I think you will have difficulty making blanket determinations and regional and national scales.
I also think there will be difficulty trying to set a price, because of ebay, or get everyone to adhere to a naming convention.
I think terms like rare and desirable are more marketing terms than reflections of reality.
I don't see many pushing LE's that done come from Steve or Frank. I would have a problem calling the Thales Tongan Table (TTT) LE, even though to the best of my knowledge I am the only person currently to have it.
I think you should continue to push your ideas if you believe in them, and I think MACNA might be the right place to do it. I am cinical regarding the business/industry side of the hobby, but that shouldn't stop you from trying to make something happen.

:D

Have we finalized an official answer on the Idaho Grape? How 'bout a picture at least? :)

And a couple other humble submissions for consideration.

A. Hoeksemai (Schmitti)

I have to admit, that I received quite a few entries of Idaho Grape in the last two swaps. So, the Idaho Grape won't qualify this time around.

Yes, for the Bennett Tort and Crayola Table.

No, for the Hoeksemai.

Regards,

Karl

Unsure if this was mentioned in this thread but just an FYI for you rare people, the "3 different strains" rule still applies for the swap.

This does NOT mean you need 3 different rare strains however, and your rares do count as a strain or two, 1 different strain if you bring two of the same rare, 2 different strain if you bring two different types of rares.

So as an example for the above person Karl ok'd

Bennett Tort
Crayola
Brown palythoa

would get you into the swap and a rare tag

or

2 Bennett Tort frags
Brown Palythoa
Green palythoa

would get you into the swap and a rare tag.

And more importantly, this is simply the minimum requirement for the swap, you can be more generous if you want, last year one particular CVR member brought something like 20 tort frags ontop of the 30 other frags (good junk too not GSP!)

And those that don't get "rare" oks from some of the pieces, please bring some frags if you can, I'm seeing a lot of very nice stuff even if it isn't considered rare.

Ok... P.S.A. over :)

Here are some that are large enough to frag.

Tenuis got from the rare category at the last BAR swap from Tropical Reef Oasis.

So since my idaho brown, I mean grape, doesn't qualify can someone answer my question as to zoas? I am happy to post pictures if necessary

Armor of God zoas

Tubs Blue Zoas

Steve Elias Blue Stag

Bue Polyped Green Cap (believe the same as the Tyree LE) and some misc zoas including eagle eye zoas

I'm going to say no on Tubs blue zoos (though not other blue zoos necessarily) due to their high level of local distribution in the last 3-4 years. I'm going to say yes on AOG in part due to their desirability. Please bring at least 2 AOG polyps per frag, pre-mounted. Neither of the sps are rare in this area.
Thx-Jim

Hold on just because you got a nice picture with your nice camera, that means you get your corals accepted? I think you judges are going to have to actually go to people's houses and see our submissions in person :D

Personally, I like how Karl approached it. Most rare collectors know what the named LE's look like. Even then, the same corals look different in different tanks. Sure there are people who are going to take advantage of the names, but let's try this, I say all rare entries need the donator's name on them. If someone is willing to stand by their entry and accept responsibility for what they put out there with their name, we should trust them.

Many LE's will NOT be considered rare for this swap. -Jim

Not sure if any of the corals I have are rare but here are a few pictures of what I have. Never been to a frag swap but was thinking for cutting some of these and checking it out.

O'yeah the lighting is 250w SE MH 14K ebay $10 bulbs 5weeks so far.

Perhaps the purple mille, gotta see the actual color though. Certainly the red & green oxy. Pls. frag the oxy at least a few days prior to the swap and 3/4" round frags would be great. Thx-Jim

We've been seeing a whole lot of subechinata lately but that IS a nice morph. Let's see what the other judges say on that one.-Jim
