Bring out your rares!!! for the BAR swap

First, I agree w/ Gresham, if it's common locally it can't be considered rare for a local swap. Also, since coral names are often meaningless, and often hijacked, I won't be saying yes or no to a list of names. Pictures only will be considered. -Jim

Jim, do you happen to recall the type of tort that was at NAA ... well before something nasty wiped it out. The piece I got from there a while back is doing quite nicely. Don't know if I'd really frag it even if it was rare but.... just in case ;)

Sounds good, Jim!:) I'm a little concerned about the name hijacking, too.

Everyone, please disregard my list from above, as I'll base my decision on pictures along with Jim and Gresham.

Regards,

Karl

(this is going to be a long @$$ thread:lol: )

If you guys prefer, when can exclude certain pieces you feel are too abundant in the area.

Not sure how LPS and zoa people would react to that:confused:

All ur micro and Purple Death r belong 2 us!

:)

Hehe.... they're hiding, Hector :)

Purple Death Palys in the background of the lord pic.

Pink Elephant in the lower right corner of the micro pic.

It's like playing "Where's Waldo" :D

They'll be even harder to find all mixed in with frags at the swap!

Have we finalized an official answer on the Idaho Grape? How 'bout a picture at least? :)

And a couple other humble submissions for consideration.

sorry i forgot to say what they are. the first one is purple milli, the second is blue stag and the third is bali slimer

Hold on just because you got a nice picture with your nice camera, that means you get your corals accepted? I think you judges are going to have to actually go to people's houses and see our submissions in person :D

Personally, I like how Karl approached it. Most rare collectors know what the named LE's look like. Even then, the same corals look different in different tanks. Sure there are people who are going to take advantage of the names, but let's try this, I say all rare entries need the donator's name on them. If someone is willing to stand by their entry and accept responsibility for what they put out there with their name, we should trust them.

Nope! :D The arbiters have to agree that it is 'rare'.

Maybe, but prolly not. Thats why there are four of us. :D

Thats one of the many reasons we asked him to be one of the arbiters.

Named LE's aren't the only 'rares'.

Sure there are people who are going to take advantage of the names, but let's try this, I say all rare entries need the donator's name on them. If someone is willing to stand by their entry and accept responsibility for what they put out there with their name, we should trust them.

All donations to the swap should have the donors name on them, 'rare' or not. It helps with lots of things, the least not being pest control and tracking.
Trust like you suggest would be nice, but its impossible. Some do try to take advantage, but more importantly, I don't see any way to enforce any punishment for putting a coral out that isn't 'rare' after the fact.

The people being the arbiters of rare do know what is out there, and they will talk about it. Looking at pics helps us make some decisions before the swap, which makes the swap go more smoothly. Some decisions will not be able to be made by photo alone and will be made the day of the swap.

:D

Karl, Gresh and Jim,

Please email me your preferred email address so we can communicate about this.
:D

Hey, the thread didn't mention who the arbiters were, but I guess I can figure it out from the posts. You guys need to introduce yourselves so we can give credit where it's due. This is job is certainly not going to be easy. Seeing that Karl, Gresh, Jim, and Rich are on the job, "Imposters beware!" You guys have my vote of confidence. Oh, I forgot to say,"Thanks guys!" :D
