"Bristle Worm attacked Tang" Maybe!

I noticed my tang was darting around the tank and looked like he was going to die but has now calmed down. On closer inspection he has a load of spines very close together very small sticking out of his side
could these be bristles from a worm?
Is there anything I can do about it?
Will he be ok?

Thanks all,

Sean

I've never heard of a bristle worn attacking a fish. I doubt that's what happened to him.

I'm not sure what else would have caused that tho...

It is possible your tank ran into a big bristleworm, but it seems unlikely. Maybe it drifted into a big bristleworm at night while sleeping, but it would not have been an attack, but rather a accident.

My tang regularly darts back and forth aggressively. I think it's a normal thing for them to do. I have also noticed if I look very closely that it looks like there a real fine fur/hair on the tang. Maybe that's what your seeing?

Deff not its hairs as they stand out about 0.5mm away from them there is a small group of about six in one place and two single ones, the look like cactus spines

He sleeps inside a rock so would not be suprised if he darted in there and got stung, not sure if I can do anything about it though

What do you guys think - Archy does not seem to happy with these spines and keeps on brushing up against a rock to try and remove them,

Thanks all.

I agree, could be some kind of fungus. Bristle worms do not attack fish. Do not even think the bristle can get onto fish (unless the fish tries to eat it).

The spines are all on the left side the group are half way down and the seperate ones are on lower part of the fish

Do not have a camera sorry,
