Broken Cable: How woud you fix it?

Was about to sell my wavebox but when I took it out and straightened the wire, the protective sleeve broke from being bent too long. The inner wires are completely fine with no damage.

I was thinking of wrapping it in electric tape, using heatshrink to get a tight steal, then silliconing over the damage portion..

Does anyone think there would be any problems with this or should I just suck it up and get a new pump?

silicone and shrink wrap will work just fine.. or you can buy another one and give that one to me hahahaha you should be good to just shrink wrap it so the wires to not get cut or anything..

electrical tape will work just fine..unless wires are cut .. butt splice and wrap with electrical tape

this is the end that will be going in the water, so has to be absolutely waterproof..

When I bought my probe for my Ranco Controller it came with a long shrinking tube you might be able to use something like that.

Get liquid electrical tape and dip/paint over the whole thing with it, from plug all the way up to the pump body. It's watertight, will fill in all the holes and small spaces, and is flexible.

How much is a new pump assembly? Roger may hook you up since that is a pretty friggin weak failure of the whole thing...

Heatshrink over a cord isn't watertight whatsoever. I don't know that I would even include it, or if I did, it would be over the liquid electric tape to protect that.

I'd send roger a PM about it, include a link to the photo. The cabling sheath shouldnt fail like that..

I did pm him about the pump unfortunately it can't be repaired. He's always taken care of me in the past so he offered me a good price for the replacement pump.. probably will chalk it up as a lost.

i covered a sump pump wire in electrical tape and abs glue. worked really good.
just a thought.

+1 on the liquid electrical tape. but isnt that the same as abs glue?

they sell adhesive lined heat shrink tubing.. (search for it)... it is supposed to be waterproof/resistant... but you would need the correct size...

you can paint it with liquid tape, or the heat shrink but i would replace it... it is doomed to early failure...

Solder it, use marine shrink tube and cover the outside with marine grade liquid electrical tape which your brush on. Then cover the entire wire bundle with a larger diameter shrink tube. When I solder wires on my boat, I will apply the liquid electrical tape first and cover it with shrink tube before it dries. Then carefully shrink the tube. The liquid stuff has a tendency to flare up if your not careful when heating up the tube but its not a big deal. The key is marine grade electric tape which has a water tight adhesive inside the shrink tube. Also, the liquid electric tape just insures that the connections are water tight. I have soldered counless wires in wet enviornments and never had an issue when doing this way.

Most boat supply stores carry the marine shrink tube and liquid electric tape.
