i was cleaning everything tonight and realized i have a small piece of plastic missing from the front of the housing right next to the clip that holds the intake strainer on. i can see daylight from one of the two holes on the back of the pump if i look through the spot where this piece is missing. is it still ok to use? i assume so because if the housing had the two openings int he back of the pump, then water would be in there anyway. i just want to make sure im not going to electrocute myself or my tank or burn my house down

Is it at the 10 or 11 oclock position if you were looking at it straight on? If so then this is normal and prettty sure from memory where it is at on the front. There is 2 round holes in the back of the pump and the one in the front.

its probably at 11 oclock. i can see straight through the hole in back if i look through it.

so i assume that this wont allow water anywhere that it shouldnt be?

really? it looks like an irregular shape like a piece broke off.

i just wanted to make sure that it was just a void before plugging it in. you never know

It does, but I think it is there for a water passage of some sort. My 6100 had the same.

It is normal, it is to allow water to fill the pump in the void spaces, almost all pumps have such holes. The polyurethane resin is really what protects the electrical components, the shell is just decorative and to allow the parts to assemble.
