Help, please, with my problem: Coral seems to have brown jelly disease.

Size of tank: 10g

Age of tank: 2 months
Sump? yes 10g
Skimmer:not yet
nitrate:0
ammonia:0
temperature:78
Water source {ro, ro/di, tap}tap till xmas
Salinity:1.024/25
Alkalinity:12
Lights: 4 t5 ho 2ac/214 or 18k
Calcium:460
Magnesium: not sure
Dosing: none yet
Specimen dipped [in what] or quarantined or previously treated? not in anything yet

I am very new to SW reef setup. And just have a quick ID question, is this more than likely brown jelly disease on my Goniopora? I have been sucking it off for the past couple days and it just keeps coming back!

Thanks in advance!

If you have other LPS in that tank I would toss it. Brown jelly can spread quickly and I would rather loose one piece then all of them. I had to toss a torch for the same reason.

Best of luck.

Thanks for all the replies. I only have some watermelon mushrooms in there as im just starting to add stuff here and there. My local coral shop said it was probably a Cyano Bacteria and sold me some stuff to treat the tank... so I tried and mushrooms seem ok but goniopra is now completely closed and looks stressed.

its like a rotten apple its just going to spoil the rest, some do iodine dips some do fresh water dips.if its the only piece in there try to save it.but its like others said not worth loosing anything else over.there aint much of a cure for it.

If you showed the LFS the picture and they proceeded to sell you something for cyano I would change LFS 's.

Yes cyano has the same "structure" but looks much different.

to capt , it is actually a local shop that ONLY deals in coral... but ya second guessing them now... So I fragged off the bad area did a quick FW dip and put it back in. today it looks beautiful again and is completely open once again! Hope this stuff stays gone!

That looked to me like brown jelly. I was going to suggest fragging off well ahead of the jelly but it seems you've already done that. I have saved frags from brown jellied colonies before.

I would not have FW dipped it. An iodine solution would have been much better. You're wanting to disinfect.

Good luck.
