Brown Slipper Lobster

Two days ago I went out to get a glass top to keep my stupid gramma from jumping out. At the LFS they had a brown slipper lobster for $12.00 I couldn't resist. So it seems to be doing just fine, not bothering the corals and the clownfish (maroon) doesn't seem to mind it at all. My question is, are they just scavengers or do they actively hunt? From what I read they are pretty peaceful and tend to come out during all hours of the day, which is kinda cool watching him tool around the tank.

Thank you!

They are much less dangerous then the regular lobsters, but they can catch sleeping fish and they will destroy any loose rocks that are stacked together especially when they mature, the smallest of the slippers that I know gets to 10 inches, at that size your aquascaping is in trouble.

good luck with him, they usually do well in tanks otherwise.

LOL I just realized I made another thread about him today. No I don't have a digital camera, but if I can get my friend J or Jose to come over today they have cameras. He really is wild though. He's only about 4 inches right now and he and my snowflake eel eat together! It is the funniest thing I have ever seen.

I don't have any rocks "stacked" on top of each other except in the back where the eel lives and he steers clear of that area. I just borrowed my buddies digital camera so I am going to take some shots of the little guy tonight or tomorrow. Just fed him tonight he eats silversides like they are corn on the cob it is wild!

Would suggest you take it right back to the store - when this grows it will be a reef terror.

When things are cheap there's always a reason !!!!!!!!!

LOL Nah, he's cheap because he is ugly and I don't think anyone would want to buy the stupid looking thing. I think he's great though. We shall see though.

Finally got the picture of him!

You lucky dude. I have been trying to get a couple lfs to get one for tank. I like the unuasal inverts, especailly the nonreef safe ones.
