so i just brought a few sps and they were brown on arrival, my purple monti lost all colour, and is now coming back gradually, my acropora is brown but is purple towards the top, wondering if it will colour up from the top, to the bottom, and has good polyp extension, my pink hystrix is looking dull aswell, my params are, cal 450ppm, alk 9-dkh and both are stable, magnesium around 1400ppm, salinity 35ppt. and running 6 t5's. how long can it take for them to return to there original colours??

Browning out after shipping is pretty normal. The browned out sections will usually not color up as much as before but the new growth will. At least in my experience, one of the benefits of getting frags shipped as opposed to colonies.

Browning does not happen overnight (during shipping). If you saw a different colored pic prior to buying the coral, it may have been lighting difference or photoshopping or both. Very few corals retain their brown colors when given good lighting and water params.

as whisperer stated, i dont believe in browning happening overnight. I had different orders come in from various vendors around the country and most had color, i did experience browning from a few frags but that was after arrival and i could attribute that to being fresh cut and the stress of shipping. I did receive one order of 4 frags with 2 bleached and 2 browned out. I think those were shipped out with issues and i got the bad product. It has taken 2 months to get 3 to start coloring up and i lost one of the bleached ones.
