Brownish red build up on SPS in high flow

My SPS which are lined up directly with the power head are getting a brownish/red growth on the side facing the flow. It builds up everyday and I end up spraying it off with a baster. It keeps coming back. Algae or bacteria growth? Any remedies?

I would say probably some algae caused by nitrate and phosphates.
I had some grow on my birdsnest and my nitrates and phosphates had gone up.
What's are your parameters

It's bacteria. Cyanobacteria or dinoflagellates.

I get this red cyano I'm The cornes where there is low flow. I syphon it out when I find it. It's re occurring. Maybe it's this red cyano. Should I do a black period? Kill it off?

Phosphates are .04
NO2 is 0
NO3 is 20ppm

Would something like this slow build up on the sps be serious enough to do a black out without light to kill it off? Maybe I'll do a water change and if it doesn't get better then a black out

Cyano. How long has your tank been up? Might still be cycling. Sounds like the powerhead is blowing it around the tankard it's landing on the SPS.

Change some water and figure out how to get your nitrates down.

Do you have have sand? What kind, and how much, live rock do you have? How old is your tank? If you do have sand, used real live rock and have enough of it (not a minimalistic scape), then after about a year, your tank should be able to handle nitrates all on it's own unless something is up.

I do have about 25 pounds of sand in a newly migrated to 7 gallon. The live rock is going on a yr and a few months but the sand is new

So I guess that's the downside of missing an established aquarium to a new tank, the sand will always got cyano?

I'm not sure you can fully avoid a cycle by doing that. I did one 75 to 125 and it still cycled. Not as bad, but still had a short period of cyano.

It's your unbalanced nutrients imho. Get those nitrates lower and you should be fine. They will smother the coral though. I find dosing g of good bacteria to be very beneficial to getting rid of cyanobacteria.

What good bacteria do you dose?

I have dosed many and continue to dose different types of bacteria. Right now I'm dosing bio digest. I have had a great response from my tank while using it. I have also had good experience with Dr Tim's waste away, microbacter7, fritz and others.

Odd place to get cyano or any type of build up- at the point of maximum flow..
But it does fit with your current situation..
What happens if you redirect the power head so that it's not hitting the corals?
A pic would help but it certainly sounds like everyone is on the right/same track..

Anything that is not in direct flow is just fine. So the problem got worse. Anything in the flow with some build up is starting to fade and die off, tuning white... including my large Monte colony Wich I'm upset about.

I did a 20% water change. I'll give the during bacteria a try. Sounds like it would make sense.

Corals getting browned out could mean alot of things. Could be
New tank syndrone
Stability
Lightning
Phosphste/nitrate high
Flow
