Bryopsis Vs GHA

Ok... So I thought I had GHA, and was working on getting rid of it... (Will be tackling manual removal tonight as best I can...

Here's my problem...

I was doing some looking online, and I think it may be bryopsis... but I can't really tell, Mine is long whispy "feather like" algae, it has a very thin central stalk, and little whispy hairs growing out from that...

The pics of GHA I saw online looked like either blades of grass, or green cobwebs.

Is there a surefire way to tell the diff? I can't post a pic yet cause I'm at work...

Would the treatment be the same for either? Or is it completely different?

It's a 29g tank, running the skimmer now, getting some light green skimmate, RO/DI or distilled water only, have a clump of chaeto in the fuge, lights on from 3pm-9pm, shortened from 1pm-9pm. Ammonia, trites, and trates all 0. PH 8.4, temp at 75-77 degrees. 25lbs dry rock, 5.5lbs live rock... I have a few small snails, and a few small (tiny) red/blue leg hermits...

Thoughts or opinions?

Thanks!

Unforunately it sounds like bryopsis which is a different animal than GHA. There are several threads on beating it. Just do a search and you will find some help. You should make sure what you have is bryopsis before tweaking your Mg to beat it down.

Sounds like it.

Nasty stuff but the solution is the same.

Reduce phosphates, skim more, reduce feeding, run gfo or carbon dose, and manual removal.

Tech M is great stuff for battling bryopsis, it also seems to work well against some types of hair.

If it gets out of control it can be pretty hard to get rid of.

Thanks guys for the info, I'm hoping that the kent tech M does the trick, i'm about 99.9% positive it's bryopsis at this point...

I also have some red algae going on, but that's not nearly as much in excess as the bryopsis...

I'm hoping my inverts can take out the red algae once they can get to it haha.

I'm also gonna keep tooth brushing the red off, and doing WC now. all ive used is RO/DI and Distilled for the tank.

My nutrient levels are 0 so I think once I get rid of what I have, it probably wont have anything to feed on to come back. *fingers crossed*

Thanks!
