BTA for a 20gal?

Thats a little small. Anemones need really good water parameters
and that might be tough in that small of a tank IMO.

I'm gonna piggyback here...

I'm in the process of getting into a 30 gallon saltwater tank. I seem to be going in the direction of a reef.
Do you think 30g is sufficient for an anemone? (in the future)

I presume it's borderline?

If you keep your bioload low, you might get away with it.
But it may become a headache. And if you're like me you may get bored with a tank that has one clown/anemone and a couple inverts or corals.
I already wish I went bigger than my 100gal.
I've been eyeballin' the neighbors pool!

i have an anenome in a 20 gallon reef and i currently have 4 fish

i would recommend against it, as it takes up a good amount of space on the right side of my tank, and i cant keep corals there.

im thinking about taking it out, but my clowns host it and theyll be sad haha

i have a skimmer and no sump, but like i said, i wouldnt recommend an anenmoe if you want to have other corals (which you will, its a disease, and once it bites you, youre in trouble!!! lol)

i've sold most of my corals to make room for an anemone.
so as long as i have room then its ok right?
i have a pair of false percs
only corals i have left are a few frags of zoos and a mushroom.
all in the sandbed.

i have 35lbs LR
skimmer
130watts coralife pc

I think you will be fine, more importantly so will a BTA. All the live rock should provide a pretty stable environment as far as water chemistry goes. One problem with anemones in small tanks is that you can get a decent ammonia spike from feeding a silverside( or its equivalent) to an anemone. After all, that's a pretty big chunk of material to throw into the tank. Keeping the fish load to a minimum as well will help. I have a maroon clown and BTA in a 20 gallon under 3x36W PC lighting. Have had the maroon for 2+ years, she's about 4 inches long now. no other fish. I recently lost my RBTA to the overflow and had to replace it. I had the RBTA for a year and a half. new BTA is doing great. I also have a torch, caulastrea, green star polyps and green spaghetti in the same tank. All grow like weeds.

I too have a 20 gal. I have 2 percs and 2 bta's. I also have about 16 to 20 lbs of live rock. I seem to have no problem with keeping btas in there. I have a protien skimmer with a biological filter and also a mini filter with carbon. I seem to need to change the water once every one to two weeks to keep the amonia down. I just feed the tank with cyclopeze and all seem to do just fine. Every now and then I feed the bta's some krill. I also have a damsel and dottyback, some green zoos and green spagehetti. One bta is starting to split. Only recomendation that I have is make sure the tank gets plenty of light. My btas moved around for about three weeks until I found good lighting and current in the tank! SO yes it can be done!

It most defintaley can be done.. I have had several anemones in a 20g, all thrived/split and lived happily ever after. The only downside is you lose valuable coral placement.

i have a BTA in my 30 and its doing fine. it has already split once before. it does take up room, but i really enjoy having one in my tank.
