As the title says. What causes a BTA to go from bright green and having nice bubbles to a dark brownish green and stringy. Almost looks like an LTA now.

Some have said hosting clowns will but looking for opinions.

my RBTA only bubbles up when there is minimal flow on it. as well as if the clowns are in a anemone mood it gets stringy as well...
as for the color that could be not strong enough lighting.. params would help alot

Dont think its lighting. Turned dark within 2 weeks of going in the tank under T5. Now LED. Have LPS that are growing great and nice color. Blasto/Frog/Acan/Hammer.

I thought they turned lighter when insufficient light.

I think the stringy thing is just from hosting but cant figure the dark thing. Almost like its doing too well and has too much zoo inside.

Depends on the type of lighting. Low light intensity with high PAR will cause your BTA to get very dark brown (from zooxanthellae) while secondary pigment will fade. If there is one challenge with many LED setups today it is that they offer very narrow spectrum light.
