Upon observation of these photos I took today (with the blue antics off) looks like the nem is a little bleached? Does anyone agree? I've been feeding it frozen thawed Mysid shrimp twice over the last two days, both times it devoured everything it caught.

So today when I got home I noticed about 1/3 of the tentacles were shrivelled up (looking almost burnt) needless to say I had a heart attack. Only to remember that this is part of their digestion process... However, I thought the entire body deflated when digesting, not just certain parts of the body. I should also add that the deflation spread through the tentacles, like a wave at a sports stadium.

Is this digestion?
Or could this be a product of stress endured by the fact that within 20 mins of the nem being added to my system, the clowns began bonding.

The nem has been in my system for 5 days now, I know it's not long at all. And I probably just need to step back and observe for a while. I just want to make sure it's well, and that I do everything I can to keep it in a thriving environment.

Progressive photos, still appears to be healthy. Although it does freak me out when it partially deflates. Have had it now for a week, it has moved slightly to the right but remains on the rock I bought with it attached too.

yes mine quit bubbbling totally and has skinny tentacles now. a lot of them do that. look up red sea aptasia x and how to kill the aptasia in your tank

I've ordered some, waiting for it to arrive. Only have one growth in there at the moment. Going to cover it with a clear plastic cup when I treat it to stop any of the poison reaching the BTA right next to it.
The aptasia is growing quite rapidly.

So the aptasia X arrived a couple of weeks ago and I applied it on the day it arrived however it grew back and appears to have multiplied one has turned into around 5-6. So today I've literally coated the infected area of the rock with aptasia in hopes it will demolish them. I really don't want this nem to spread throughout my tank..

On a side note the BTA is doing great, I'm target feeding small amounts of frozen mysisd once every two days.

Does anyone fi d that when they scrape their glass that the BTA will deflate a little? Mine does it every time. It loves day two after a water change. Trying to find a place that sells a GBTA.

Also was kinda thinking of adding a coral, was thinking about maybe growing a zoanthid bed at the bottom of the tank, somewhere where the BTAs aren't likely to travel. If I were to purchase a fragging rock with some on it will they spread onto a piece of PVC pipe?

Cheers again,

Quick update, everyone seems to be doing great, thinking about feeding the nem some raw prawn, any advice on how big/small the piece should be?

Also, can anyone tell me what these white rock-like things are on this turbo snails shell? Did some googling and found that it could be eggs? I don't think this is the case however.

Cheers,

hello I like your anemone (entacmea quadricolor) this is a beautiful and little anemone who pose less problem in reef the other

Over the last day or twofer bubble tip has been closing randomly during the day, I recently had some of the rock work collapse while cleaning and had to rearrange some of the rocks which has caused the nem to be placed slightly higher in the tank.

This is what it currently looks like, the mouth looks inflated but tightly closed. I usually directly feed it once every two days with a bit of Mysid shrimp. WasConsidering giving it some thawed raw prawn. It might hold off on that for a while until I see it become healthier.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why it suddenly would start closing up during the day and looking smaller than usual when open?

Too much light? Change in water current?

About to test water parameters so will post them as soon as I know.

Parameters are as follows:

PH - 8.4
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 0 ppm
Phosphate - 0.01-0.25 ppm
KH - 10 dKh
Calcium - 340 ppm

From what I know about nems is they need constant water quality and not a lot of changes. Most importantly is you're feeding it WAY too much food. At most once a week is all that is needed.

For now leave it where it is and let it stabilize where it is. Use moderate lighting but be consistent with it.

You didn't say what the sg of the water is. This is one of the most important things to keep constant in the system. It's better for it to be low than to be low and shock the nem with bring up the salinity too fast. It needs to be done gradually and with water changes. Are you doing 10% water changes per week?

I understand that a lot of changes are bad for nems and that recently a lot of changes did occur.
I've done so much research on bta's, I knew I was probably feeding too much. Every time I fed it though it would eat like it was starving.. Will defiantly cut back on the direct feeding.

Moderate lighting? Exactly how do I measure my lighting in low - high levels? I agree that lighting could be the issue but wouldn't it be better to change one thing at a time and see how it reacts over a week or so? That I can pin point exactly what the causes were.

Sg is 1.024, sorry I did measure that but forgot to type it in. My salinity never changes more than .001, so it's always either 1.024 - 1.025. No issues there that I can see.

I do my water changes religiously! Probably the most important thing I can do for my tank, I've never missed a wc, and always done on the same day. New water is mixed and left for at leased 6hrs but 90% of the time I leave it to mix for 24hrs. I'm due for a wc tomorrow so will be making the water today and adding it tomorrow.

As far as % of water I do per week, I think it could be closer to 15% per week, possibly 20. I might find out exactly how much I do today and report back. Is it bad to do more than 10% per week? I find it hard to clean the sand bed before the water change it complete, sometimes I've had to do half one week and the other half the next but I hated the look of the tank with 50/50 white and brown sand.

But yeah will as stated report back with exact amount of water I do a week.

Thank you so much for your time!
