BTA in 150 litre (40gal) tank advice

So currently waiting for my tank to fully mature it's currently 3 months old. I would really love a bta however worried about the tank being too small, I want to plan my tank around having a nem inside. So if anyone has any suggestions as to what else (as far as coral life goes) I can put in the tank that would be great too.

As far a fish go I only would to have two clowns, a cleaner shrimp and perhaps a yellow tang, but not sure as of yet how big they grow... perhaps too big for this tank.

So, is a 40gal tank too small?
What other coral life will be okay to have in the tank with a nem (bta)?
Do bta eat cleaner shrimp?
Will a yellow tank be too big in a 40gal with two clowns and a cleaner shrimp?

Thanks for you time everyone and look forward to some progression in my planing of my livestock!

So, is a 40gal tank too small? No, a BTA will be just fine
What other coral life will be okay to have in the tank with a nem (bta)? If the anemone wonders (and it will) there is little hope that corals will survive
Do bta eat cleaner shrimp? No unless the shrimp wonders into the anemone
Will a yellow tank be too big in a 40gal with two clowns and a cleaner shrimp? Yellow tang? Yes, your tank is too small. The clowns will be okay but depending upon which variety you get. Shrimp is good to go

BTA is fine in a 40g

Anything you want, just be ready to relocate corals when the BTA moves. It doesn't kill things instantly so you'll have plenty of time to intervene. Some BTAs move all the time no matter what, but generally speaking they should remain put when they are happy.

Do bta eat cleaner shrimp?
Only if it's sick/dying.

Yellow tang is not a suitable fish for a 40g.

If you can wait 6 months plus before adding corals. I would say that would be ideal. This will give the tank time to mature and be stable enough for a bta. It will also give the nem the opportunity to wander around and find a spot that it likes and will settle in without any collateral damage.

The others above me have hit the nail on the head!

I keep a very healthy and very beautiful orange and red bbta in a 36 gal bow front with a growing collection of corals.

Thanks guys! Awesome answers. I will be waiting another few months before I get a BTA, once it has settled for a month I will start adding corals.
Thanks again for all of your time in answering my questions, cheers

What corals do you have in your 36gal? Post a photo!

Nothing major yet. Eagle eye zoo, Rasta zoo, bird of paradise, Jason fox jack o lantern lepton, meteor shower cyph, frogspawn, octospawn, 2 types of hammer, and a purple rimmed green monti cap I can't seem to get to color up.

All frags and growing in. Will take some fresh pics and post asap

Yellow tang is not a suitable fish for a 40g.

Sensitive SPS like deepwater acros may RTN from a healthy moving anemones on touch, LPS and softies for the most part should be safe if caught in good enough time.

I've always been told that you should wait for a fully mature tank that's been running successfully for at least ten months before adding an anenome...

I heard to wait six, so that's what I'm doing. So far it's been four months since the cycle had finished. Obtained my clean up crew a few weeks ago and got my first fish last week. Thinking about just making it a BTA only tank with two clowns and my cleanup crew. Thought a green and red bta would look beautiful together.

I had GBTA with a Maroon clown who hosted it in a 40B. But one word of advice is to put screens over your Powerheads or you'll wake up to a nem shake. I am lucky my tank didnt crashed but I had to deal with the worst algae problem after. Finally last 2 months I got my tank back in check. GBTA died almost one year ago. I am hoping by end of summer I will have another BTA.

I will defiantly be protecting my bta from power heads, I'm big on learning from other people's mistakes. I have also decided to just have a strictly bta tank with my clean up crew and two clowns, thinking about getting the clowns this week and adding the nem within the next 2 months. Not fussed if the clown don't host, whatever they want to do I'm happy with.

Your nem was beautiful, sorry to hear about your nem-shake aquarium. How have you gone about protecting the new one from power heads?

Hey guys,

So today I got a BTA, and within 20 mins of the nem being in the tank this happens..
(Okay so cannot upload the video)
But my two clown fish host the anemone. I couldn't believe my eyes, both of them were just straight in there and the nem seemed to like it as it began to expand further.
Unbelievable, I really did not expect that at all.

QQ: Do the needs of a GBTA differ from the needs of BTA/RBTA?

Btw will try posting the video again tomorrow while I'm at Uni.

Also, can anyone tell me what this is in the last two photos? It came on the rock I got with the nem.

Cheers everyone, and take care!

That's gotta be a huge nem or tiny clowns...either way it's really nice and looks really happy. Love the bubble tips - mine won't bubble for long :/

I think the mystery item is an aiptasia...kill it with fire! Seriously though, I'm sure the others here can give you tips on getting rid of that!

PICTURES!! Hahaha

Sorry for the super late reply! Lol I'll snap some updated shots when I get home from work tonight and post them up! Have gotten a few more sps since I dropped into this thread last. Battling a bit of gha though :(

Also, great looking nem! It's awesome that your clowns dove right in. Mine took a couple of months.

Aiptasia x works wonders

I love them, so happy that I've got one, been photographing it everyday so I can monitor any changes. I'm actually really anxious about having one, I hope all my research pays off and I don't run into any problems regarding its health and wellbeing.

All good, can't wait to see some shots! That sucks about the green hair algae, my blenny demolishes any gha, I love him, total trooper. He also eats from my hand, my clowns are slowly building up the confidence to do that. Right now they just watch Ghost (aka the blenny) and say, "he touched the butt"..
