BTA in hiding

Got my 1st anenome 3 days ago and he won't come out to play. is it common for BTA's to go into hiding for a while when introduced to a new tank? I don't know how long he was in the dealer tank but the lighting in LFS are usually poor so maybe my VHO's are going to need getting used to???

Any help/insight would be much appreciated.

cheers

Don't worry, he'll come out when he's ready. Should only take a few days, but sometimes it might take a little longer. You'll find that he'll move around a lot at first until he finds a spot he likes, just the right distance from the light in a rock with a hole or crevice, in which he can plant his foot and retreat into at night.
Cheers

thanks, i figured he'd make his way out and into a spot that suits his needs. just wasn't sure whether or not this was typical. or whether i picked a specimen that was in the LFS too long!

cheers

he still hasn't come out...though he looks really good. how long do they typically stay in hiding (on average of course as i understand every case is different)? put another way, how long have you observed them hide before they come out?

cheers

Ok...he's been out for a week, eating and looking good. now how do i introduce him to my clowns and vise versa???

They're kind of ignoring each other being very snobbish...and i'm not liking it. :furious: I like my ecosystem to be a happy go lucky very friendly environment, and these guys are cramping my style. :lol2:

I'd still suggest adding a few layers of windowscreen on the top of your tank to acclimate the anemone to your lighting system; taking one layer off a week. Now the issue of the clowns accepting it as their host may or may not happen. Over the years I've had clowns take anywhere from minutes to 6 mos. to finally dive into an anemone. & some never do, depending on the species of clown/anemone. Good luck & be patient...

Some say that if you post a picture of the same species of clown hosting in the same species of anemone, that will encourage them to host. My guess is that you probably have a BTA and occy clowns, which are not natural hosts in the wild but are pretty common in the aquarium

sounds like solid advise SwampyBill, thanks

Lol...clownfreak, stop using your jedi mind tricks on me!!! If by occy you mean Ocellaris, you would be correct. As for the BTA, that's scary! I don't know how you do it :spin2:

Now about the picture thing, I was sniffling under my breathe as i read about it in another thread. Ok...I'll admit I tried it here where i can remain anonymous, ask me anywhere else and i'll flat out deny it :wildone:

Anytime, Reefology...Just passing on what I've learned myself. What are your water parameters & how long has the tank been set up?
Everytime I hear of the whole picture thing I have a good chuckle.....;)
