BTA moves after 15 months

I have a BTA for the past 15 months under PC lighting in a 55 gallon reef tank. The BTA was on the top portion of the tank attached to a flat rock.

7 days ago I changed to T-5 lighting and the BTA moved underneath that rock (still positioned on the top portion of the tank). I flipped the rock so the BTA is back facing the top, and the BTA now moved to a different rock on the bottom of the tank.

I checked my params 12 days ago and they are consistent with the past. I know it has to do with the change to the T-5 lighting, but I thought the BTA needed moderate to strong lighting. The tank has been established for two and a half years. Should I be worried since the BTA is on the bottom of the tank?

Light shock. The t-5 was probably much brighter than the pc's were so he moved to a dimmer location. Once he acclimates to the lighting he will move back into the light.

I it might be hard to tell, but do you think the BTA will move back on the top portion of the tank or stay towards the bottom with T-5 lighting?

it sounds like the BTA was light shocked.that means that it did not have time to adjust to the T5 lighting system. if you had this anemone under the PC's for 15 months and then over night change to T5 lighting itwill take time for it to acclimate to the new tank lighting.

Neither my rbta or condy have moved from the place I put them in when I first recieved them nine months ago. Yes, they are in the same tank and the same place. Both were switched from a ten inch deep tank under pc's to a fifteen inch deep acrylic tank under a nova extreme pro. No problems except for the peppermint shrimp trying to steal food from my anemones. I wouldn't worry unless it stopped eating.

Light shock for sure. Don't move the anemone. Leave it where it is and it will move on it's own when it's ready. That being said, it probably won't go back to the exact same spot it was in. You might have to do some rearranging to accommodate it's new location and keep other livestock happy.

So far its been 24 hours and the BTA is still in the bottom front of the tank. Hopefully, the BTA has found its new home. It also, has Xenia's right next to it. Not sure if the BTA will affect them.

No telling what the RBTA will do. He still might move around. I keep all sps in my tank and I had a RBTA that did not move for about 1.5yrs. After it split the clone and mother moves and started stinging corals. I guess I've learned the hard way why hardcore sps hobbiests prefer not to have RBTAs in their tank.

I have a BTA, not a RBTA. I believe their is a difference in behavior, right?

no they are the same anemone. BTA are the same thing as RBTA.

Yeah, BTA(R is just for rose color) are less needy for light.
As for zenia, may be perfect, as zenia was about the only thing I can think of that is somewhat resistent to nem stings.
And I wouldn't mess w/ it, it's going to go where it wants.
I usually rec making a ledge for them so they can stretch in/out of light as needed.

UPDATE: Well after sitting in the front bottom of the tank for approx 48 hours, my BTA has moved back to the back bottom of the tank underneath a different rock (shaded area).

Obviously, I just have to let it be and hope it comes back to the viewing area, under the T-5 lighting soon.

Ok, well I think I did something stupid....

As in my previous post the BTA went behind the rock in the "shade." Well I didn't know the BTA was attached to two separate rocks and not just one. I think I might have ripped part of it. How do I know if I ripped part of the BTA and will it survive? On or in its white base their was pink long oval-type tissue.

I have T5's and my RBTA's stay near the bottom and never more than halfway up the tank, about 20-28" from the lights.

Regarding the tearing, it depends on how stressed it was. Normally they won't have any trouble repairing. I actually ripped one of mine a couple of days ago getting it off a rock. I didn't realize it was in the middle of splitting. I put it in an isolation container and it's fine. I won't say the same for my Percs, the female almost had a heart attack!
