BTA wandering jones

I added a GBTA about three weeks ago- and it has not stopped its rambling as of yet. I have had a ton of these things and usually within a week they are settled. This one will go down in the rock for a day or two- then be out in the light, only to disappear overnight back to another deep spot. I could understand it looking for light and flow, but it has no real pattern to where it decides to hang out- sometimes surface- sometimes bottom. Looks great and feeds well- but you can imagine the worry over the corals in the tank with this thing barnstorming all day and night. any ideas on how to shut it down?

no I have a hi flow sump on the tank, so there is a SQWD outputs, but nothing the nem can get stuck to and damaged.

Much safer for your anemones, I use this in 2 tanks. I have heard a lot of people complain about them, have you had any problems? I just take it off and clean it out once in a while, it's all good.

I don't want to start controversy here. This is my opinion. They wander for a reason. Looking for light, flow or food. Sometimes if your chemistry if off it will set them to wander. Mine have stayed put for 2 years, began to wander a bit just before it split. You say you have a ton, now? How are the others acting. I just acquired a little rose , it wandered and wandered in my brother's tank. It has stayed put for me, he never fed, I do, may be the difference. I am searching for a reason, have you tested your water? Whats your specific gravity? Ph? Temp? What else can you test?

No controversy at all with your statement- your right on. I have had a ton of them in the past,as I was a retail/wholesaler for a decade or so. Water parameters are spot on I can test for anything- and do weekly- I have over 20 yrs of all data for all tanks in my care! This one fed from day one- usually it will feed and then move down. As far as the SQWD goes- depends on the tank- with some systems with lower flow pumps- it is good to clean them every six months. I have had a few slow down, but never stop- and they get noisey when needing service. Mine is on a mag 18, so it doesn`t need attention more than a yearly inspection. Here are my parameters for those keeping score at home- and these are what I run on all my systems no matter what the inhabitants.

SG 1.024

temp-78

ammonia 0
nitrite 0
trate 0 -10
phos 0
alk 8.4kh
Ca 420
Ph 8.2

Wow, quite a resume, feeling a little intimidated.
You are looking fine as far as your chemistry goes. Your lighting is fine and flow. Maybe try crazy glue. Just trying to keep your attention, Kidding, kidding, that should start a controversy. I wish I could come up with something but everything looks fine. Could something be bothering it, do you keep any noxious corals, softies? Are you running carbon? If anyone else can think of anything else chime in.

I thought of one more thing, it worked like a charm for my brother, he gave it away, to me. But I guess that won't work , I'm thinking you want it. Sorry I am running out of "good" suggestions, only have the stupid ones left.

Its about 10 mins from the glad hand to a friend! The tank is a softie tank- so you may be spot on with the chemical distaste. I just always feel that the anemones are the threat- not the corals. I always have been a user of chemi pure carbon/resin- so there is a good dose of that in there. As far as the resume goes- i have been lucky to spend so many years in the hobby/business, but I never stop asking questions. I think that the person with 1 ten gallon tank and a months experience can notice something that may benefit everyone. Nothing in the nature in a box hobby is a given or constant- there is no wrong way to do things if it works. I thank you for your time- and I will give a strong look at setting up a rubble area and removing some corals to the other side of the display to see if that helps. I will also crack open another case of carbon to see if that does anything.

Good luck, hope it calms down for you, I would hate to see you have to give it away. It's been a pleasure, I love this hobby.

Well I did little to nothing- and he has picked a spot and stuck there the last five days. Nice that its about 3 inches from where i originally tried to spot him. Only real damage is he got all over a green sinularia- which is shedding now-so I hope for the best. I think this situation was a light related one. I think he was a bit bleached and just couldnt hang with my wattage. Took over a month- but looks like he his happy. Now if i can get the clown that will host anything to glance at it...............
