BTA wholesale price

I hope I don't get shot for even thinking of asking this, but does anyone have any sort of an estimate or ballpark price on wholesale cost of something like a BTA?

I typically don't advise publicly speaking about wholesale pricing because it hurts the LFS' bottom line. The goal is to support the LFS so they remain in business. I'm sure people will send you PMs with numbers but I do t think it's a good idea to post them here.

I actually know what the mark up is on saltwater livestock in general in my area and don't mind it at all. If markups were lower LFS wouldn't be able to sustain themselves given how long it takes on average to sell a fish, anemones and other saltwater livestock.

I imagine it to be fairly high. Buying in high volume gets the LFS better deals. Better question, why do you need to know the exact amount?

I forgot to mention that I think many LFS, especially in my area, buy (typically credit, not cash) BTAs from hobbyists who had their nems split. This is obviously different from a wholesale price, but impacts what someone will spend at a wholesale level.

In general, here in SoCal the wholesale price is/was about 1/2 the retail price. Now that BTA's have acquired fancy names, online vendors will cherry pick BTAs at the same wholesale prices and jack them up 10x the wholesale price because people will pay more for a "Rainbow" BTA than a rose anemone with green tips, even though they are the same anemone and go for the same wholesale price.

I don't have a problem with "farmed" anemones fetching a higher price, but for the most part many of the "designer" anemones are just look-a-likes pulled from the wholesaler's bins.
