In Memoriam
Ive never seen a bubble coral in person and I was wondering if it looks less bubbley from far away.

I want to know how big each bubble polyp is

A full tank shot with bubble coral in it would be great ... I cant seem to find one

There are two types, the roundish bubbles, and the pearl bubble. What I have is green pearl bubble.

Stand by for pix.
The bubble is on the bottom to the right of center.

Lets see if this works. Its the first time I've attempted to post an image.
Heres a full tank shot and the second is just the Bubble coral. The tank is 37 gallons. Only 24 inches wide but 24 inches tall as well.

My small bubble... it got a good deal on it due to the fact that the LFS placed it in a high flow and some of its tissue started to go. Not bad to 23 bucks!

Thats it in a 29g. Looks pretty happy, I need to buy some feed for it now.

What do most of you feed your bubble??? I just use DT's live phyto....or feed it grocery store shrimp....Once in a while I will mix some frozen formula one along with some DTs as well....

My bubble gets mainly what the fish missed, now and then a piece of mysis or such.

I don't think bubble corals are among the few stony corals that consume phyto - and given it can easily provoke nutrient issues [IMO] I don't add phyto as I lack corals/filter-feeders that actively consume it. IMO, it's easier to feed the coral directly than feed the tank to maybe feed the coral.

Anyway - here's my bubble, in tank, before I fragged it:

You guys are lucky. My bubble sends out HUGE stingers all day long and kills anything in sight. The coral itself is about 10-12" in when expanded and the stingers are another 8-10" long. It sure is purty though. :D

I had him in a holding tank and I had to go to desperate measure to keep everything in the tank from getting stung!

Try to get a neon green one, they are stunning in person and when the actinics are on, they are insanely beautiful.

Here's a few pics of my two pearl bubbles from a few years ago when they were only about 5 years old. ;)

The large green one we believe spawned in my tank. It wound up soffucating the fish as it removed all the oxygen from the water. :(. It's now in my 400G tank and about the size of a soccer ball.

The pink one has been a better citizen but has had a hard life. I almost completely lost him after getting him. He was down to just a small portion of the original coral skeletion. about a 2" peice. he's now recoverd nicely and is bigger than a softball.

Both do well as do all of my LPS corals. I do not directly feed them nor do I feed phyto or other filter feeder foods. They get food like they would in nature, whatever floats buy that the fish drop. yet i rarely see sweepers out looking for food. ;)

Wow, those sweepers are long!!! very nice... I have seen the neon green ones in person and they are no doubt very appealing, I can only imagine how they would look under the actinics.

This is him under 10K, the color is washed out - but yeah the neon bubble is the first thing EVERYONE sees. Please forgive the tank, its still being setup, few more weeks to go  His sweepers aren't out at the moment, a rarity.
