Ahhh... So you are running it fresh water.. I thought so. That's about the only way bubbles could rise that fast. Salt water is much more dense and has more surface tension. The density of salt water causes the bubbles to riser much slower. It also causes them to break apart in the skimmer and become much finer and will turn to foam. In fresh water, what you are seeing now is typical.

As a side note, you may need to lower the sump level a tiny bit unless you have a really low load. Once you get your system up and running, start the skimmer pump at about 36 watts and keep the wedge pipe wide open. I always try to use my sump level to adjust the level inside the skimmer while keeping the wedge pipe wide open. Then once I get the level close to where the skimmer is producing consistently, any fine adjustments can be done with the wedge pipe but would never need to close the wedge more than 1/4 of the way.

For a 350 gal for only sps corals and fish what recommended: Supermarin 250 or Supermarin 300??? And in terms of performance the new RD3 are superior to the old red dragon ??? Or should buy the normal model...??

Thanks ;)

I assume the 350G is display only? Either way, a Supermarin 300 would be way too large for your system.. If you have a low fish load which would be typical of an SPS system, I would suggest the Supermarin 200. If you have a heavy load, You could use the Supermarin 250. I run the Supermarin 250 with the RD3 on a heavily stocked 480G display that has about 60 fish. Many of which are large 7-8" tangs and such and my tank is over fed too. I was torn between the SM300 and SM250. In the end, I wanted a hard working skimmer that was very consistent vs an oversized skimmer that hardly had to work and was inconsistent as a result. Been there, done that and in the end, I made the right choice. These skimmers are underrated and very efficient. You really don't want to oversize them.

The RD3 is far superior to the Red Dragon 1's. It makes fine tuning the skimmer much easier and is a better balanced skimmer since the air and water mixture is better balanced by virtue of the fact that they are tied together based on the pumps RPM. The result is overall better performance and less futzing to get the skimmer tuned. It's also a bit more efficient as you will likely never exceed 37 watts when you get it dialed in.

Is there a new Supermarin 250 VS15 with the 60w rd3? I saw this on their website.

Red Dragon® 3 Mini Speedy 60 Watt 2500 l/h
60 Watt/h 2500 l/h air intake
speed adjustable Brushless DC pump
for Bubble King® Supermarin 250 VS15
for Bubble King® Supermarin 300 with 1 pump VS15

Yes.. The latest generation of the SM 250 and SM300 will include the RD3 60w pumps. The SM300 has gone to a single pump design as has the Deluxe 300's..

So I placed an order about 2 weeks ago for a sm 250. And it has been back ordered. Will it come with that 60w rd3 or the 50w rd3? The website I bought it from says the 50w but if there's a 60w I want that one. Thanks

There is a shipment from Germany that is in customs right now in Miami and should arrive in Ft. Myers anytime. There are SM250's on those pallets and I do believe they will include the 60w pumps. That said, you likely will never exceed 38 watts on that skimmer as I've found 37 to 38 watts to be the sweet spot for the SM250. As such, the larger pump won't make a bit of difference as the increased maximum RPM isn't needed on that skimmer. They are just standardizing the pumps between the larger model skimmers as it keeps things a bit easier from a bill of material and inventory standpoint.

RE want use in the future for all bigger models, the 60 Watt RD3 Speedy.
The 50 Watt RD3 is perfect for the SM 250, most peoples runs with 30-40 watt maximum. Begining from 2016, we use only two RD3-Skimmer pumps :
150 - 1500 L/H Airintake and 250 - 2500 L/H....

Here any Pictures from a *Closed Loop Dreambox* include a Supermarines 250

Hope it helps...

What would be the recommended brand/size of neck cleaner for a Double Cone 180?

You would need a 180mm one. I prefer the Vertex Vectra over the Swabbie as the Vectra's have the routed out channel in the underside of the lid to help center it on the collection cup. Avast got rid of that routed out channel on their swabbie and solely rely on the thumb screws which in my opinion is a short coming.

Awesome, thank you Scott!

Glad to help. You will love having an SCH (neck cleaner). The Vectra (and swabbie) use pretty slow motors. Run it once or twice a day for 60 seconds. I would start at once a day and see how that works. I've been running my Skim Clean Aqua Driver SCH for 5 years now and it was by far the best addition to skimmers I have ever seen. Mine runs once a day for 15 seconds and my neck is always clean though the Skim Clean uses a much faster gear driven motor. You will love the improved consistency and performance one adds to the skimmer along with the reduced maintenance. My collection cup only gets removed for cleaning every 6 months now and even then, it doesn't need to come off. I only do it to give the inside of the cup a thorough cleaning.

Any ETA on a shipment of Supermarins making it to Premium Aquatics? I would like to take advantage of the black Friday 10% off sale on a Supermarin 200. The Premium Aquatics site is out of stock on Supermarines, wont let me place an order.

The sale is posted to take place on 11/23/15 Midnight to 11/30/15 Midnight.

Please advice.
