Bubble King Skimmer Club

I bet the the SM 250 would do a great job. I was recommended a sm 250 by Proline for a SPS heavy bioload store display 200 (not including sump of course), so I feel confident that would hold true for yours as well... as long as your bio load wasn't super heavy.

Joining the club with a 250 Deluxe for a planned 200 gallon reef hoping on decent bioload eventually. Big sump and frag tank may make the total volume ~500 gallons.

Who's running ozone on their BK? Any known long term effects on these sturdy skimmers?

BIG box inside my front door when I got home today! This thing is really big ... I hope it will perform well on my 500 gallon system (when it is setup). Now I have to design a sump for it. What is the high water outflow for? Looks like you can dump water exiting the skimmer to the next section. What do Deluxe owners do with the outflow tube?

TommyBelfast or some one else could you give me the measurements of the base of the sm 200 with out the pump attached? just the square base!
Thank you,
Pat

No ... Wasn't sure the increased energy consumption was worth it. I'm also new to salt and wanted to start with something tried ad true. I had a Vertex 250, but that was body was cracked at the output ell on arrival. I took that as a sign from the BK gods :)

Maybe a silly Q, but why is the silicone tube only barely long enough to reach the pump on the deluxe models? There's virtually no slack to adjust the standpipe ...

hi people,

I have the bubble king deluxe 250 internal. been using it for about 1 month. and I need to ask you some questions. I would appreciate your responses.
I have read the manual and it says that the water level has to be adjusted by lifting up & down the telescope. do we also have to adjust the water level by turn'ng the wedge shaped pipe to right or left?

and also, I had to use a 45 degree pipe at the entrance of the pump because without this pipe the pump causes a swirl from the water surface to the pump inlet. its said to be dangerous and could damage the pump. and there is this yellow part at the entrance of the pump with the black dot on it. its said to be the optimum using level of the pump when the black dots meet on the pump and on the yellow part. its also said that you can increase the water intake of the pump by 500 liters/hr by turning this yellow part in the clockwise direction.

So I would like to learn how you guys operate your skimmers to get the best result out of it. the most important thing I would like to know is the water level of the sump that you run your skimmer.

Hallo ,
I'm writing to you to obtain rialable informations about new RD2 Titanium DC 170W Skimmer pump.
I have a Bubble King De Luxe 400 internal with a standard Red Dragon 2500; This pump now is broken and I would like to bought a new RD2 Titanium DC 170W Skimmer pump to upgrade my air intake.
I'd like to know if new RD2 Titanium DC 170W Skimmer pump has 3300 l/h air intake as Mr Jansen shows in this attached video or its maximum air intake is 2500 l/h as my standard 2500 RD pump?

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v660/royal-exclusiv/?action=view&current=MOV03120.flv

And, with 170W RD2 Titaniun DC Brushless pump, is it possible to have 3300 l/h air intake with its needle wheel or it needs a HC meshwheel to have 3300 l/h air intake? In this case is possible now to order a new RD2 Titanium DC 170W Skimmer pump with HC meshwheel?
Sorry for all these questions but my local dealer is not able to understand these technical features for doing a right order for me.
Thank you very much in advanced for your support.
Best regards

Lorenzo

ok, so today i purchused my first bk and i'm hoping its everything i hope its cracked up to be. It will be running on my arounf 115 tottal g system. But i have one question, i bought a gen 1 bk mini 160 is there a way to get the gen2 verson or some where, where i can send it?

To help Lorenzo and all others such as myself that own a BK400 Internal I'll try to explain what Proline shared with me last week.

According to Klaus the RDII (170w version) pump wouldn't add enough performance to make up for what the original pump is lacking in air input. It looks like the best option is to add another RD 2500. Ofcourse this means that the body has to be drilled. Both on the exterior and at the bubble plate.

I personally am a little nervous about this solution. I do have a friend that builds tanks for a living and could do this, but I don't know if I want to risk damaging the skimmer body.

I'd like to just get a new body and the additional pump. Then this skimmer would be where it's supposed to performance wise. My understanding is that the newer 400's have two pumps to correct the performance issue. I just don't feel like shelling out a ton more money though. The pump is one thing, but the pump and a body is a whole different animal.

Thanks for your help Bricky, I think that operation is not so easy to do! Is drilling plexiglass more difficult than drilling glass? Is there anybody able to do this operation? Could he explain it?

Proline was going to be visiting with Klaus within the next couple weeks. They were going to get more details on the solution for those of us with the 400 Internal. I'll post more details once I speak with Proline again. They were to return on the 28th of June and I'll give them a chance to return to normalcy before I bug them again.

Thank you very much Bricky, i hope to find an easy solution for this skimmer. It is so expensive but not so good about its performance! I'm waiting from 2006 to have a solution from Mr Jansen but I'm still waiting for it!

i have a 500 int, and after trying all of the suggested settings, have found running the skimmer in less water height, and restricting the air for more rpms on the pump works great. these are the most adjustable skimmers to my knowledge out there, and why i feel their tank ratings vary so much from model to model

if i ran my skimmer how it was recommended, i think my skimmer would underachieve. like a lot of the other 400 int owners claim

Could someone please recommend a feed pump for the BK300EX? The input said between 500 - 2000 l/h. How about an Eheim 1260? It is reated at 2500 l/h, just a lottle over. Or the Aquabee 2000?

I sent my Bubble King 400int to Klaus for an update of my skimmer body to use it with 2 x 2500 pumps as newest models. This update will give to my skimmer a better performance.
When Klaus will give it back to me, I will say how it works!!!

Interested in what pumps you'll end up with. Proline is telling me that the second pump is going to be a RD 2000. That is in addition to the already in use 2500 pump.

I wish I could send it to him for the fix, but that's not cost effective. I'll just have to drill the body and bubble plate myself.
