Bubble King Skimmer Club

Considering getting a Bubble King Deluxe Internal for a 240 gallon aggressive soft coral setup. My understanding is that this would be an awesome skimmer with very low power consumption of 40 watts. But...............the price, really at $1700, its 2-3 times the price of other well respected skimmers. Is it worth the extra money?

OF COURSE!
you will only know when you buy it. But take it from BK owners None of us would sell them for other skimmers.

If you do not want to spend that much money, but still want a BK, look at the Vertex Alpha Kone skimmers. They are made by Royal-Exclusiv, and there is no quality or construction differences from the Bubble King line. For your size system check out the Alpha 200 or Alpha 250, currently priced on promotional special for $809 and $1079.

JT48, I know it's a butt ton of cash but you won't regret it. I struggled with the decision for quite awhile because I had what others considered a nice skimmer and as soon as I got my SM 250 I quickly realized everything that my other "nice" skimmer wasn't doing. My entire tank turned around within a couple weeks of adding just the new skimmer.

I have had my BK180 mini installed on my 75g for about 2 months. My stocking consists of a 3" yellow tang, 3"hippo tang, 3"flame angel, bartlett anthias, ocellaris clown, dragon wrasse, fourline wrasse, coral banded shrimp. I feed one cube mysis or brine mixed with formula two daily. I usually do an extra feeding on the weekend. I also run a filter sock on the drain line. The tank is a FOWLR with a 75g sump. My question is, how much nog should I expect? I don't think my skimmer is pulling like it should. I also dose 1.4 ml of vodka and 1ml of MB7 daily.

Seems that you have a small bioload. Therefore you will get little skimmate.
Typically on a 75 gallon you could get away with a 160 mini.
Also if you tank is looking good don't worry what is in the skimmer to much.

Jeremy-

Could i get a recommendation on a BK skimmer for a my current set up (150gal sps tank) with a 300gal upgrade as soon i as next spring (2011)

im thinking if i could down tune a bigger one and bring it over to the 300 gal as soon as i am ready to move it over it would be cool.

thanks

ps-= size, room no prob, under $2000 please

Thanks Ksed. Tank looks good. I'm getting a little algae on the rocks but not much. I don't have any snails or hermits to mow it down. The tangs and angel pick at it, but don't really go after it much. My filter sock picks up a lot of dirt, I end up changing it every third or fourth day. Maybe that's why I don't get much skimmate?

I would look at the Super Marin 250. This one is easier to restrict back than what the Deluxe or Alpha's seem to be. While it's still going to be "big" for the 150, I think you will be able to get it to work just fine. Once it's on the 300, it will absolutely rock!

Hi everybody...

For those who has bought SM250... can you help me please telling me if the silencer/air intake is correctly installed in mine? please notice in my pic that part...

Connect the other end of the silicone tube to the small, red part on your volute.

Does anyone know the difference between the BK Supermarin 300 and the BK Delux 300 internal skimmers? I plan on ordering one of the two. Which one would you get and why. Thanks!

The 300 Deluxe is a standard cylinder, with cone neck and bubble plate. This unit has a single Red Dragon pump based off of the Askoll 2000 motorblock.

The Super Marin line is the latest and greatest from Royal-Exclusiv, using a 300mm body just like the Deluxe, but also incorporating a a cone coming off of the bubble plate, feeding into the cone neck. The SM300 utilizes two pumps, a Red Dragon based off of the Askoll 2000 motorblock, and a slave Red Dragon based off of an Askoll 1500 motorblock.

Personally, I would go with the Super Marin, as that is the most efficiently designed skimmer on the market in my opinion, including the full cones.

Just adding that both have diff that may sway you to them, SM brute force.
Deluxe smaller footprint, and tuning. You get more options with the deluxe like the telescoping wedgepipe that the SM does not have, and controll of exhaust which the SM does not have. Correct me if i am wrong jeremy but the newer deluxe has somewhat of a cone as well does it not?
