Best ?

I would not say performance. This is an option to set what turnover rate you want your skimmer. The first pic i would say is set up to remove stubborn DOCs because it has a lower turnover rate(Water moving thru the skimmer/Contact time) = time in skimmer body.
Pic number 2 is more water through the skimmer = less contact time. Which would be good say you have a contaminant like an anemone spawn or a bak bloom you want to clear up fast.

Sorry but my english is very limited =) i m French

I was say

I have 10 no3 Mg/L and 0.11 PO4

I need more "" clear "" my tank.

(my tank = 280 Gallons )

I have a Supermarine 250 internal and it has the old style non threaded collection cup. I need another oring for it (collection cup to skimmer cone joint) and no longer have the old one for comparison. Does anyone have a part number or a contact to get new orings through? I'm just not interested in removing skimmer from sump and taking it across town without certainty I can get it on the spot. So hopefully something online is available.
Thanks,
Tom

Guillaume57,
In your first pic it appears as if your have the inlet screwed all the way in and in the second pic its way too far out. Start with factory recommended settings. Screw the pump inlet all the way in and back it off 2 turns lining up the two dots. Then adjust your outlet pipe to get level correct inside skimmer (this will take you a little while making small adjustments). I normally go with the top of the cone. After a while you can fine tune it more to your needs, but you should never be far from factory settings to start with. Besides taking evasive action for contanminents, my opinion is no matter what system you have or the difference between different systems, inlets screwed all the way in or all the way out will not work as you desire. Your skimmer should stir up that detris in your sump also, but if it does not consider throwing a power head into sump to stir it up. If you do not get the results you need after starting from factory recommended settings read back through this forum about testing with a flow-meter.

Any one know where I can send my Bk self cleaning head in for service- just died and, I paid over $1000 for it several years ago-
Thanks to anyone who can direct me.

I have a question. I have a bk mini 200 what would cause the skimmer not to shut down when the overflow the cup gets full. Everything is seated properly and working great besides the occasional overflow of the cup when I miss a few cleanups. When it overflows it really makes a mess of things.

Hi Anthony
When exactly does it overflow? Is it when u make a water change?
If that's the case just lower the water level once uv made the water change and increase it to normal recommended level in few hours time.
Just the same in case you are adding some additives which can make the skimmer overflow. Switch off skimmer or lower the water level for few hours.
One sure shot way of shutting down the skimmer is installing a DIY float valve setup with the collection cup and this can shut down the skimmer before it over flows :)

Check out this video with float valve install.

More over if ur skimmer is brand new it does take a few days or a week to break in and during this time the chances for over flowing is quite frequent and once u hit the sweet spot with BK then it's the best skimmer in the market.
I have a BK mini 180 and hav documented the install in my thread. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2022954&page=8

It's working extremely well for me. It's just a matter of a time and patient adjustment and the BK will skim away to glory :D
Hope this rant of mine helped :)

Happy Reefing!!

Hi Reef_Noob

The issue isn't with the the skimmer over flowing due to water level or additives as I know what will cause my skimmer to overflow in that aspect of it and I have an automatic water level control that keeps my water level within an 1/8 of an inch. I've also been running this skimmer for over a year and absolutely love it. The problem I encounter is and I just may have not of understood it is I thought that the ring on the collection cup was supposed to shut the air down on the skimmer. But after seeing the video you posted is when I relized I may have been wrong. This happens strictly due to not emptying the collection cup under routine maintenance. It happens, but not very often that I forget. The tank just runs superb. That is my issue. Is that ring on the lid supposed to shut the skimmer down.

Hmm anthony i am not very sure about the ring you are talking about...can you post a pic?

I am not aware/not sure if such a mechanism is built in the BK....
As far as i know the water level into the skimmer is the only adjustable factor and thats done by rotating the the tall red outlet pipe....
and i have not noticed any shut down of air into the skimmer mech in my skimmer. hmm
And on a lighter side,,,,if you dont empty your skimmer cup when its full...it will overflow :D
On a serious note...clean your skimmer cup every 3 days and you will see this skimmer take off....a clean head always performs better :D

Cant stress enough the skimmer is very well built and a good performer. Its great to know its been with you for a long time and doing its job :) Overflow issues for me till now can be soley blamed on me and not the skimmer :)

Guys,

For a 120g SPS tank with a medium bio-load (7 fish, may add 2 more) what would be the better choice, a 180 or 200? Also, are these skimmers really worth the price?? I'm torn between the Warner Marine MF201 and the BK... The difference in price is huge, and the MF201 is pretty cool looking...

I'm having a real hard time trying to figure out what to purchase!

Hi Jeremy,

I'm hoping you could help me with the SM 300 with the 2 pumps. Been having a horrible time with it. Its very sensitive. Its on a 260g, 9 inches stable water level.

The problem is that when it builds a foam head, it skims perfectly, but if there are any disturbances in the sandbed (as in small particulate matter released) it collapses. This is normal for many skimmers. But the problem is, that once it occurs, it takes a couple of days to build a steady foam head. Any attempt to increase the height of the water level to make it easier for the foam head, results in overflow.

Have opened the screw on the RD2000 volute all the way out. The greater amount of water has stabilized things to some extent, but still a long way off.

Any recommendations?

Bubblekings are definatly worth the price.. quality of the Skimmer is beyoind anything I've ever seen before. Works fantastic, don't have to constantly fiddle with it to make it work like my past Skimmers I owned..

Hi :)
The name says it all Bubble KING :D
You can blindly go for the 200.
Your choice of the other equipments are spot on so choosing the King will just be the cherry on the icing.
I have a 180 and it's a mean (in a good way) skimmer.
Good luck on ur new endeavor

Happy Reefing!!

Thanks guys, one of my concerns is a pump failure... From what I have read, it can take up to 5 weeks for a replacement pump, and for a BK200, the pump is around $600!

I'm still on the fence... :)

Hi Bro,
Me too, it was a tough choice for me. I had put out 3 brands of skimmers(on my thread, as a poll). And finally went for the BK.
I checked out the WM skimmer you had said about. Looks good but the heart is super weak. It's a modified EDEN pump. It can't even be compared to the Red Dragon pump. And beats it hands down on performance. I know first hand coz iv owned the Skimz skimmer (who manufactures this particular WM model)
Check out ATB too they have extremely nice skimmers and Anton's customer service is just superb.
If still $$ is a factor check out Bubble Magus, but the ones with the Eheim pumps. It's the heart of the skimmer that matters :D
Sorry for my rant. Hope it helps.
