So got a bubble Magnus 5 2 weeks ago. For some reason it's adjustable pipe is backwards. Max makes less bubbles and min makes more. Can't seem to get it from stop overflowing as well any idea why reef central.
If you want more foam/bubbles you want Min, which lets the minimum amount of water out of the body. Do you have the red plug in at the bottom? Also, what's your water level, I believe the BM5 like 25-27cm of water. I'm a little lower but it still works for me.
Yes adjustment is tricky, or backwards, or something. The closer to the middle of the adjustment pipe you put it, the less water flow you will get. Mine is in less water than is recommended, and I've found most people get better results in less than recommended water level.
I have mine on an eggcrate cage so it sits in 7.5" of water. I adjust it so the bubbles reach right above where the cup attaches to the skimmer, that's between 1 and 2 on the adjustment pipe.
How old is your tank and how many fish? Also, have you used any putty or glue to aquascape lately? If you have some fish and a bio-load I would suggest doing some water changes and flush out whatever is causing it to over flow.
If it's brand new it needs to break in for a week.
Set it on max and just let it overflow back into the sump for a week or so and then try adjusting it again. Or you can scrub it real good with a vinegar bath.
All skimmers have a break in period where they will just sit and overflow until a biofilm forms in the body.
Edit:
Another thing you can do is attach an airline with a ball valve to the air inlet and dial it back until it breaks it, or set it on eggcrate as mentioned above at shallow water level until the overflow stops, then set it back down to optimal water level. No matter how you do it, you won't get optimal function on any brand new skimmer for at least a week until that biofilm builds up. Also keep that in mind when you go to clean it. After you scrub the biofilm off the inside during cleaning it will take it another week or so to function at peak again.
Tanks cycled for 6 weeks. Now its 3 months old. Yes I used purple putty for aquascaping before i started cycling. been having the issues for almost three weeks now. It sits in 7.5 inches of water. It seemed to be acting alright then I changed the filter socks and it went nuts again for 2 days. Its currently running at max with the collection cup outlet in the socks before equipment section. Is the skimmer going to act up every time I change my socks. I just don't understand I rinse my brand new socks with RODI why does the skimmer act up so much.
