I just received my order from Dr. foster & Smith Live Aquaria
and the bubble tip anemone is not looking very good the center
where the mouth is suppose to be has all kinds of stuff "Guts" coming out of it! But the color in the tentacles looks good.
Is their any saving it?

Take a picture of it first and then try to acclimate it. Send it to the good doctors to claim a DOA, then see what happens.

did it smell rotten in the bag? If not there is still a chance to save it.

Acclimate slow & leave it alone in the tank, dont try to feed for a few days or anything... with good water quality, lighting & little stress it can bounce back.

Take a pic, but I would not claim DOA. LA has a 14 day guaruntee, no need to go rushing off claiming doa, they will honor their 14 day if it dies in that time frame.

Guts? you have pic, I have never seen this before ? It could just expelling waste due to something it ate or even expelling zooxanthellae. Lots of times they do shrink up when they do this also.. Possible it ate something before they bagged it. Honestly I have never seen the guts come out of any anemone, most shrivel or wilt when they are dieing or sick. Bta's are very hardy can can recover from just about anything.

Yes !! It has the white noodle like appendages protruding from it !!
When I get home ill post some pictures.
Once again thanks for all the help!!! Reef Central is a excellent tool to the new hobbyist..

btw, I wasn't recommending that he attempt to defraud the dx's. Just that many don't include anemones on their guarantee, but will honor DOA issues. I haven't ordered from the dx's, so thanks for clarifying this.

Here are the pictures. I ended up pulling it out of the tank and it smelled very bad!! So i made the decision to put it in a small bowl. But I dont think it is going to mak it!!

I called live Aquaria and they are going to ship another one out today;) But it's too bad this one had to die !

yeah its sad that it died, at least BTA's are cultured easily so its not like a magnificent anemone dying.

Is cultured the right word?

Yes Cultured is the right word, but that BTA was probably not cultured. It was very likely wild caught. Its death, as with the death of anyany anemone is sad.

What am I doing wrong? I left the lights off all day on Friday, acclimated for temp and salinity. all my water parameters are in

WHAT DO I DO!! And can I save this one it doesn't smell bad yet!

I'm not sure that you're doing anything wrong, but could you describe in detail how you acclimate it. Also, what did it look like when you received it? How much water and how much air in the bag? Did it come overnight? Did the package sit out in the sun all day (by chance)?

Do you have a 10 gallon QT tank you can put it in? You'll need to get it out of there.

I acclimated it by turning all the lights off in the tank, then I put the bag in the water for about 1/2 hour so the temps in the bag and the tank were the same. Then I opened the bag and put about 1/4 cup of tank water in the bag and let it sit for about another 1/2 hour and then repeated with another 1/4 cup of tank water in the bag then let it sit for about 1/2 hour then removed about 1/2 of the water in the bag and disposed of it. Then I added about another 1/2 cup of tank water and let sit for 1/2 hour after this I removed the bulb anemone and set it on the sand bed on the bottom of my tank out of any flow!!!
the stuff coming out of it was not as bad when I opened the box but it was still coming out.
The packing list said it was shipped at 05/31/07 at 9:51 Am and I received it at 10:30 AM on 06/01/07

Also another Ocellaris clownfish was floating upon arrival

Hm, your acclimation method doesn't sound unduly harsh, but you may want to attempt a drip acclimation. Just get some airline tubing, tie a knot in it, create a siphon with a small drip (<1 drop per second, and then let it drip for a few hours. It's much gentler.

I've still been working on the temp acclimation. I've been using a pail, and when there's enough water I add a small submersible heater. Although I've been thinking of clipping the bag in the sump, so it floats, and then proceed with the drip method. I live in Florida, so it never gets very cold around hear. You may need to be more aggressive in IL.

I bet something is going on during transport. Live Aquaria will need to work it out.

Where are your water parameters? Are you sure SG is correct? Do you have a refractometer? If not, I'd run a bag of water to the LFS to make sure your hydrometer is correct.

Sorry, this must be maddening. Hang in there.

i would do nothing but the drip method. i think all saltwater creatures need to have it done that way. depending on how much water is coming in the bag you may not even be doubling or tripling the water volume that you need to.

get yourself a peice of airline tubing and do it that way with a bucket, it is so much easier on you and you new friends, just let it run for a hour empty some water out and then let it run for a hour again. you always want to try to double the amount of water it comes in, so it they put 3 cups of water you need to give it 3 cups of water...

also what are you water params? how long has this tank been up and running?

thirds a charm!
