Bubble tip falling apart!

I picked up a bubble tip anemone thats whiteish colored a few weeks back, and since I got it, its been moving around and its just unhappy. Water params are good, all my corals are doing well... I feed it frozen food.

Now its 'mouth' is all opened up and looks like its falling apart. Is there any way to save this thing? Or is there a better way to take care of it? I've never had an anemone!

If it is falling apart, melting, I would come to the conclusion that it is pretty much dead and remove it from your tank. It is best to avoid anemones which are whitish color unless you want to spend time nursing it back to health.

i bought a bubble tipped about a year ago and its the exact scenario. it jumped around the tank every day for a week then just started to wither away. its beak was exposed and it was very withered and weak. long story short he didn't make it. I think it was either bad parameters or just bad pickings. sorry for your loss brother

What are your actual parameters -- with numbers
What size tank?
How long has it been set up?
What lights do you have?

Don't remember the numbers sorry :(

Lights I had were 2x175 mh, it was doing bad, and i had to tear down the tank because of an ich problem. so now its just got a single 70w mh over everything.

Tank size was a 55, now its a eurobraced 70g

It may be the shock of switching tanks, but then again, it wasn't doing well in the first tank.

I'll just count my losses and look for a non-white one next time! lol

Can anemones carry ich btw? Seems like when I added that thing, within a week, there was an ich outbreak...

No. Ich is a fish related disease, not an invertebrate one. There very well could have been ich in the water in which the anemone was in. I never mix LFS water with my water because of that reason.

Since you have little experience with anemones, I would do some research. It will definitely increase your chances of having a successful trip with your next anemone. It's impossible to learn too much.

And as Toddrtrex asked, how long has your tank been established for? That's important to know.

Thanks for the advice.

The tank has been going for a good year and a half now. Not much growth because i skimped on the mh bulbs when i ordered them. They were junk and I never bought replacements until now.

The new tank, i'm building a pendant with 2x 175w iwasaki 15000k :) I'm stoked! Bulbs showed up last week and I'm getting anxious to get the show on the road!

Find out those numbers. Bubble anemones are relatively hardy animals but they still require proper reef conditions/numbers to thrive. I wouldn't invest in any photosynthetic creatures until you get your new lighting, since 70 watt MH is not adequate for your tank size. I used to run a 70 watt halide over a 20 high and I felt that was not enough for bubble anemones.

The same applies about the 70 watt metal halide. You purchased a bleached anemone which means its unhealty to begin with. I still would not purchase any photosynthetic animals with the ligthing you currently have. Wait till you have the proper lighting and parameters and then purchase livestock.
